That was exactly my first thought. I'm amazed that people don't seem to mind putting their home address and a telephone bill that clearly lists some of their friend's (or family's) numbers up onto a public website.
That to me is a serious WTF.

By cross total I meant digit sum. The latter term seems to be more customary.

When I was a kid, I remember my mom getting a bill from a hospital for $0.00, which she didn't pay. A month later, she got another copy with a threat that it would be turned over to collections. My mother being ever resourceful, decided rather than calling them and sorting it out, she wrote a check for $0.00 and sent it to them. They considered the account paid in full. I just wish we could get a copy of her billing history on that - Invoice 0.00, Payment 0.00 (Thank You), Balance Forward $0.00...

If you rotate the image by about 54% and crank up the contrast and magnification in Photoshop, you could probably find the right genetic makeup for an Alex clone.

The address is for his company inedo. A search for his name does show he apparently lives in the same city though. Also, the phone number on the backside of his bill is his home phone, but that wasn't something I gathered from increasing the contrast. On the other hand, once I found his real number the bill confirmed it is his home phone.

Google knows all!

... what kind of stuck process or forced recalculation was someone trying to trigger by first reducing the charges by a penny for a week, then incrementing them back up again? This smacks to me of those tills in shops that you can't open without recording a sale, so if the assistant gets your change wrong they have to ring up a bogus sale for 0.01 just to get the cash drawer open.

Sorry I didn't meant to spark your xenophobia. I just find this hatred of Canadian money humorous now. I live in the northeast and on every toll both you see the sign "Canadian bills discounted 60%". That is how it was for me growing up. I also visited Montreal several times (underage drinking for the 18 year old me ... and handsy strip clubs!) when the exchange rate was 1.50 CAD. Those were good times.

It's sad to me now that a $6 dollar (CAD) beer is no longer a good deal.

I once bought a 6-pack of ping pong balls from Dick's. The cost was something like 1.50, including tax. Then the checkout guy, after noticing a message that popped up on his terminal, paused and then asked me if I wanted to buy the extended warranty for only $5.00 more! He could barely keep himself from laughing. I was really tempted but decided to decline. He agreed with my decision (off the record), but said that he had to ask me since the computer said so.

I wish now that I had actually signed up. That would have been $5.00 well spent for future amusement.

...and that is why the "don't publish your address on the web" paranoia is mostly sensationalist crap.

The bad guys _already_ know where you live.
And if you're the sort of person that doesn't have your address and phone number available in databases like the white pages, then you're probably not the sort of person that posts your address online anyway.

Besides, I'm more worried about the creepy guy across the street than someone on the other side of the road - and nothing I can do stops _him_ knowing where I live.

I noticed it, then realised that that's not the envelope, it's a letter that was sent in a windowed envelope, the 'card inside' bit is not visible, only the address.
