"Don't tell me you're still using those solar panels that require sunlight, are you?"

No I'm not, I'm using a solar panel that is has nano-antennae that capture infra-red radiation and convert it to energy (the sun gives out loads of infra-red radiation). Infra-red radiation is still around at night and this is how it works so not a WTF at all.

Technically the solar panel could charge by night as well. if, for example, there was a full moon, or a nearby streetlight. That's not really an error I think.

Re: Early Bird Upcharge

To all the people saying solar panels can 'technically' work at night: I think the internal resistance of the solar panel would be more than enough to soak up the tiny amount of energy they produce. Even bright moonlight is many orders of magnitude less intense than sunlight. Wikipedia says the moon is 500,000 times fainter than the sun. So a 10W solar panel in daylight might produce 20 microwatts in moonlight. This is clearly not enough to do any charging!

Also the captcha in the article and thedailywtf captcha look really really easy to break...

From the words-in-foreign-languages-sound-funny-in-ours dept
Pinus means "pine tree" in Latin. Which is somewhat used in captchas, as we can see here.

Next there will be a captcha WTF about Uranus, I'll bet.

Far away
The ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing the starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

But I'll never let you go
If you promised not to fade away
Never fade away

Black holes and revelations

TRWTF is that pronounciation in the english language is so sloppy that you can exchange all the vowels in a word and still get something that sounds mostly like the original.

I wonder if I manually change the EULA in the WOW directory if it would prompt me to re-accept it and show whatever I put in there. I'll try it out and if it works it will lead to all kinds of fun. I can change the EULA on my wife's computer and have it say things like "Why are you playing World of Warcraft? Go cook some eggs!"

Hang on, aren't mandalas (mandalae?) *supposed* to be destroyed? Yes, I know it's supposed to happen after they're finished, but I can't think of a better illustration of the transitory nature of things. Wonder if the monks saw it that way too...

The worst thing about the WOW EULA viewer:

It has the sentence "The EULA has changed!" at the top of the screen, apparently part of the backdrop image or something. Then the first first line of the EULA reads, "last updated: 2007" or invariably some date far in the past. Liars.

They should change that text to read: "Our lawyers have us by the balls!"

The banner sentence is inaccurate. It should read "You've just downloaded a new patch. Why not re-read the EULA even though it hasn't changed in two years and you never read it anyway?"

Also, there should be a picture of a level 70 elite Clippy next to it.

The funny thing is that you're SUPPOSED to destroy Mandalas. It's just that you wait until they're finished, first.

They're supposed to demonstrate the "impermanence of all things" or some crap like that.

So no real harm done. The kid actually saved them a day or two of making the stupid thing!

These solar charged things only work for about six months of the year here in Alta, Norway. In the summer it's sun all the time so they never come on and in winter there's no sun at all so they don't get charged.

What a waste.

The solar panels would indeed work just fine, if you are north of the polar circle (Or south, depending on which pole). Would only work through the summer of course.

Of course, if you're traveling with an amoured polarbear, I may be wrong.
