If people would reboot everytime a single program wouldn't work they're PC's would be rebooting more often than running.

It sounds like WS_FTP has some sort of trial software control in it, and some dev forgot to take his debugging dialog box displaying the time remaining in the trial.

I don't get the knowledge base for WS_FTP. It looks like they have an issue using DLLs, but instead of fixing the installer or their application or whatever, you have to delete a file?

(To me, looks like a bizarre error check, related to possibly loading the local .dll instead of the one located in the system folder; the .dll then barfs because it is using relative pathing for some other .dll instead of absolute and then cries 'Never!' because it can't find what it needs. Definitely a design issue in my book....)

The first one just looks like a Spanish text mode was enabled, but never actually completed before release.

You would have been treated for sure here in Canada, that is after snow-shoeing from the clinic to the hospital and waiting in emerg for 4 hours due to a backlog of paranoid parents that have children with coughs.. but yeah, you would have been treated.

Speaking of which my fiance is in ortho this week. If you were in the city I live in she quite possibly would have been in your surgery.

The real WTF is the snow shoes aren't for snow (it's 20 celcius right now), you would need them to get over and past the multitude of bunnies on the hospital grounds. It's a crazy infestation, however no one will allow them to be "removed" (if they were rats the story would be different). People would riot if you killed them and the law prohibits relocating that classification of animal (if trapped they must be release on site or euthanized). WTF.

Go to the ER, they can't refuse to treat you. If you really do have COBRA, even if the forms haven't been processed yet, they will still cover it. You may have to submit the claim yourself when the Hospital sends you the bill, but it's still coverage. Doesn't your hospital have a patient advocate?

Snow shoes for dealing with bunnies? how about a flamethrower instead. j/k yes my sense of humor is childish but anyway I'd adopt them all :)

Not refusing to treat you is a far cry from not charging you.... The ER will treat you, then they will bill you. And if you don't/can't pay the bill then they will send collections after you, garnish your wages, put a lien on any property you might have, etc, etc.... I've known two people who were forced into bankruptcy for going to the ER without health insurance....

"Insurance" for health care is a complete crock. I'm not saying Canada, or Europe has a workable solution either, but the idea that our health care system based on private insurance can work is a joke. Insurance works because of all the people who pay into it, only a fraction will need the services; think of home fire insurance. Everyone buys it, but only a small percentage of people actually have their house burn down and file claims. In contrast, everyone eventually needs health care; and if everyone needs it, the economics break down. Think of after the hurricane Andrew or Katrina. Insurance companies were going broke, failing, and unable to pay claims, because more people were making claims than were not.....

American health care is the greatest most technologically advanced in the world--for those who can afford it, and that's as big a WTF as any seen on this site....

The only natural predator on that list around here (cougars) are kept as far from the city as possible. The owl population is booming though.

The university has the same problem. Rabbits undermine the structural integrity of foundations and wreck havoc to campus in general (all thanks to a few too many pets being released). The only natural predators are birds (owls, hawks, eagles..). Drunken students rarely go after them (in fear of having charges pressed against them).

Sorry, completely off-topic but a huge frustration of mine I have a hard time letting go of and all these error'd items are pretty dull.

My wife was put on a one month waiting list for an scope procedure because of severe pains whenever she ate anything. After two weeks, we finally had to go to the emergency room, where we waited for two hours with her in agonizing pain. Turns out she needed gallbladder surgery, and at that point, she was near liver failure. And for this I paid over $250 a month, and my employer, who has 150,000 employees' worth of bargaining power, still ended up paying $10,800 a year. Tell me about the great American no-wait health system again?

Oh yeah, the insurance-negotiated price for a 90 minute gallbladder surgery and 5 days in a semi-private room was just under $21,000.

I'm really sorry to hear about that story, Tim. However, I'm not sure that anecdote can be blamed on "the health care system."

My girlfriend reported the same symptoms and was in the hospital an hour later. The surgery was two days later, and exactly six days in total she was released, minus one gall bladder and the hospital co-pay (which I think was $100). The Explanation of Benefits mentioned something about $15k-$20k in hospital costs.

Private insurance lost money on her that year, but well... that's what it's for.

Not saying the system is perfect, good, or even great... just one anecdotal case where it worked, and your unfortunate one where it didn't. I can't judge the system solely on either anecdote.

Except I had pains that started maybe once every 6 months, I shrugged it off, then once every 3 months. Went to the doctor and had an upper GI xray, drank those nasty salts, found nothing. Some time later I had the pains once every couple of weeks, had a camera inserted into my stomach (via the happier mouth path, still unpleasant). Ruled I had reflux issues, gave me nexium. Some time later, had pains every other day or so, eating anything or not. At last, they decide on an ultrasound, the least invasive thing, so of course they try it last. Lo and behold, acid wasn't to blame, but gallstones.

Scheduled a surgery a few months later, went in, had the laparoscopic proceedure. Doctor said I was pretty close to a rupture, which would have been... exciting.

This is in canada, the surgery wait time wasn't terrible, getting a proper diagnosis was. I'm still bitter.

In our case, the diagnosis was there ("very likely gallstones"), but the primary care doctor wouldn't approve anything until they had a scope procedure done, and the soonest they could get her in was a month. At this point, she was eating nothing but chicken broth, because anything fattier would have her rolled up in a ball and crying. We finally didn't get in until she couldn't even drink the broth, and we ended up in the emergency room.

I also have an appointment with the optometrist to have my prescription updated--in 8 weeks. Again, that's the soonest they can get me in, and I can't see any optometrists outside my medical group.

Well, it's pretty much like that here too. Except that the "sunk cost" goes to a private company instead of the government.
