So why does Paraparaumu College use a "Biology course for Year 12" for its year 13 biology course?

The warranty is only void if you break the seal. Just take a pair of scissors and cut the envelope around the seal and you're OK.

That's what they mean by "working around" a problem...

Re: Opener Beware

But the question you have to ask yourself is "What is the warranty for?" Is is the Warranty on the software, the licenses, or... for the envelope, which would oddly make the most sense. Can you imagine where the world would be if people started demanding refunds on their envelopes because it broke when they tore it open? The next thing you know, it's raining frogs, the oceans have turned to blood, and JPEGs wont use the correct PostScript levels!

I find this picture creepy and I'm not sure why.

Maybe it's because the whole point of having more than just white people in these types of pictures is to prove that you cherish your diversity, that you don't discriminate based on race, gender or sexual orientation... yet.. despite this picture having people that tick all the right right diversity boxes, they all look the same.

In fairness, the point of family tree made entirely of females is a bit obscure. I'm not sure I understand it myself.

They reproduce via cellular mitosis followed by cytokinesis. It's obvious, isn't it?

Also, it looks to me like that "Press Enter" dialog was probably added by someone who always uses keyboard shortcuts - since the input focus is on the OK button, pressing Enter or Space will do the same thing as clicking the button.

It is not a family tree - every picture is made up from a combination of the two pictures above it. That is why everyone looks the same.

Actually, I think it's another version of the "open this end" found on milk cartons, but in reverse.

Open the envelope from the other end. Problem solved. Warranty preserved.

The warranty is only void if the software is broken, not if the seal is broken. Which means, of course, that the warranty was void before the submitter even got it.

The warranty one is not at all surprising. I've seen ones that say by opening the envelope, you agree to the enclosed license. Guess what the license is enclosed in?

The ATM one is just scary. Anyone who thinks Windows on an ATM is a good idea shouldn't be allowed *near* software that handles money.

Actually, it appears that "college" doesn't have the same meaning in New Zealand. From what I can tell, the school houses years 9-13. So year 13 seems to be the final year (not 12).

Does someone from New Zealand want to educate us?

Last I heard, the effort of creationists in Kansas to have school textbooks actually discuss evidence for and againt evolution was shot down. So now Kansas schools, like the rest of the country, teach evolution as unquestionable dogma, and tell students that "the scientific method" means "believing what your teachers tell you without looking at the evidence yourself".

Especially as this is a New Zealand textbook, rather than an import (Designs of Life being the year 13 textbook).

Maybe Paraparaumu really is the sort of place where this sort of thing happens. Or maybe they wanted to avoid the discussion of the biological evolution of humans in the more advanced book.

In New Zealand, like most western nations, you start primary school at or around age 5. Hence there are 13 years.

College is the period from Year 8-13.

Like the rest of the world, we call the grown up place you spend 3-4 years afterwards College at while drinking heavily, "The Pub". Or sometimes 'University'.
