The restaurant could've bypassed that error by calling them Sheetakes.

Or by not misspelling "shiitake" in the first place.

I love those mushrooms. My Shi'ite neighbor taught me to feed them to my shih tzu puppy.

But "DROP TABLE" or "TRUNCATE" or "UPDATE" is perfectly okay?

Interesting....

Also, depending on where and how they do input validation, I wonder if "select" would pass.

You never know. Maybe someone was smart enought to only give the user that would be accessing the table SELECT privilages. Even a dim light bulb flickers and gets really bright right before it burns out.
Please tell us about your intriguing way to store a password in a database with only SELECT privileges.

Even then...most programming languages variables cannot start with a number...soo...no WTF here.

(unless of course the programmer didn't know that a variable cannot begin with a number and did it anyway, and it could be 6 to 2 or 7 to 3 or something silly like that)

((although doesn't PHP and ASP throw up an improper variable name error/warning if you begin a variable with a number? I've...never bothered to try it.))
