Comment On What the Ad? - Executives So Cra-zay

Here at work, we use a Lanier Multi-Function Printer/Scanner/Fax/Toaster the size of a small car that does tons of things and does them pretty well. However, back in 1981, Lanier was in the business of selling systems, and if you think that their EZ-1 was simply a word processor, you'd best think again. [expand full text]

Fistula.

So if you don't know a baud from a floppy, their ad goes off into 8-bit, 16-bit, hard and floppy disks, etc. Hmm...

For more gems like these, just turn to the last 5-10 pages of any pc magazine, such as, ahem, PC Magazine, Computer World, or whatever. They've got a load of wtf type ads.

I'm not running any adblockers or anything else that should interfere with image loading, but there isn't a single image in that story when I view it.

They probably broke the disk into 4 parts and you had to assemble it. Remember seeing dishes like that back in those days.

I'm taking bets for next weeks What the Ad post.

How many comments will be posted before the forum devolves into Tier 1 tech support?

Seriously, if you're reading this site, you should be able to figure out an ad-blocker...or at least have enough shame to not speak up when you can't figure it out.

Did you miss the part where I said I didn't have an adblocker installed? Ubuntu 8.10 + Konqueror, so no Kapersky or anything similar either.

I'm not so much looking for tech support as telling the Powers That Be that there's something odd going on.

Lot of complaints about FF3 with Adblock. Whenever I enable Adblock, it blocks the image based on the filter /ads/.*

Looks like its blocking everything from http://img.thedailywtf.com/images/ads

That's pretty funny, actually.

I miss nothing.

The part you quoted was generalized to the type of tech support requests this section is most inundated with. The reason I quoted you had to do with the first part of my comment...you were the one who started this (at least, in this particular article).

Oh and you don't need to wait for the powers that be...just read any one of the 4 posts before yours to see that the problem is on your end...odd or not.

Maybe I'm being too nice but the first ad appears to be highlighting the differences between an electric/manual typewriter and a computer. Which means their comments, while amusing from today's context, weren't really all that strange.

It's possible to allow the images for this site only. That'll of course allow any other images from that images/ads directory, which will make the ads work again. Sneaky.

I allow ads on this site (and other selected sites I browse regularly) - because I've never found them annoying... as soon as I do then I block them. I think it's the only way site owners learn to filter the type and source of ads they use.

Maybe I'm a purist but I feel that ad-blockers were designed to block the annoyance of popup/floating/flashing and ugly ads, not to block valid revenue streams.

No offense, but this was one of the worst TDWTF articles I've ever seen. Not only were the ads not that funny or interesting and reminiscent of the previous ads post not too long ago, but the comments afterwards were silly, and as stated before, partially incorrect. Please please rewrite the article to a high school reading level before posting them Alex! I can't wait for tomorrow's WTF.
