It'd be interesting to check out how many people haven't replied to one of the comic strips yet. Because, most probably, that non-vocal majority (including myself) actually thinks that the comics are fine, and fit the site and its theme perfectly (except for the fact that they're optimized for >1024x768, which is somewhat of a PITA for me).

I simply don't have any bullshit to throw at them like some others here feel the need to do, and I guess quite some others feel the same.

    Keep 'em coming, I say!

Please stop polluting the site with this terrible excuse for comics.

OK guys, here's the solution. We need a new setting in addition to the Summary/Full Article one. It's called Normal/OMG Old Skool. Normal setting is the same as we have now. OMG Old Skool is for all these whiners. Instead of displaying all articles, it just displays DailyWTF articles from 2006. It also makes their comments invisible to everyone else.

Seriously, how about a menu where we can check/uncheck the different types of articles to display on the front page? I like all of the articles personally, but I think this should be a pretty simple fix to keep everyone happy.

I've been reading The Daily WTF for years now. It was bad when the content moved from code to poor excused for articles. Fortunately, I can ignore those. It was worse when they started running ads. Thank goodness for AdBlock! But now - this comic - that's it, I quit. This is my last comment, and, consequently, my last visit to The Daily WTF.
We, the readers of WTF, would like to express to you our thanks for your many months of readership and express our sincerest regret at the loss of your feedback...

No, actually we could care less. You're not as important as you think you are, now piss off.

You got a whole half-cube to yourself? One time, I was contracting for a bank, and they gave me and another contractor a whole half-cube in the middle of their call center for us to share! (and yes, were were somehow both supposed to write code there, using one computer...). You can bet I got out of there as quickly as I could!

In light of an earlier comment, I feel obliged to say that I don't really like the webcomic. The style is cluttered, the art is too poor for any material requiring visual humour and the material is old.

It occurs to me that more private development time is necessary to bring the comic up to the standard of the rest of the site.

Having said that, I'm quite happy to read it on the off chance that it finds its way and becomes funny at some point.

Best enhancement request evah! Scales well to future changes too. This would be like only getting the comics and the coupons in the daily paper as that is all I read; no extra fluff, no extra trash.

I think the comics are just fine, and am happy to see more content on the site.

George, don't worry too much about the detractors. New content is like pizza. No matter where you get it from, some loudmouths are inevitably going to complain, "this sucks! Garry's Pizza-Down-The-Street makes waaaaaaay better pizza than this."

    Keep at it.

  • If you have to explain it... (unregistered) in reply to Verto

Anytime someone tells a joke, and nobody gets it, and they have to explain it, nobody still laughs...

While I don't mind the comics, I think that if you feel you have to explain it, then you've missed your mark. Either trust your storyboard, or go another way.

I've never posted a comment here before, but I've been reading for about a year.

I like comics, and don't mind having them on the frontpage, but this one is really terrible.

I don't mind the bad art, and I don't feel offended by the stereotypes, but these jokes are tired, predictable, and just not funny.

I remember when they used this joke on the Simpsons years ago.

  • M.C. Sarbanes-Oxalot (unregistered)

Please, stop with the comics. This is The Daily WTF, a place where we come to read about outrageous things that really happened. Sometimes those things are uproariously hilarious, and sometimes they are only mildly funny.

Yes, George's drawing skills are improving, and yes, I am sure one day one of the jokes will be almost funny. But this is not the place for comics. Please, stick them on the sidebar or host them somewhere else.

I don't want to see the core mission of this site diluted by a web comic about nerddom -- my god, those are a dime a dozen on this internet.

  • Elmo (unregistered)

You know what? I take it all back. I was alternating between posting a complaint, looking into ways to block the comic, and thinking of unsubscribing from the feed.

But now I realize that I don't want to miss it. I want to laugh at the futile effort of the comic, then come in here and listen to the hordes mocking it, and the apologists' weak attempts at rationalizing its continued existence.

Well played, guys. Your subversive attempt at increasing readership loyalty by decreasing quality has hooked me. Worse is indeed better.

OK, so I guess I'm the only one who likes both the comic and the descriptions. Fine.

  • Ben Wilhelm (unregistered) in reply to modelnine

I haven't replied before, and I think these comics are atrocious. They're not funny and the art is poor (seriously, that door? Learn perspective. Perspective is not the same thing as skewing.

I enjoy the rest of the content, but at this point I only read the comics so I can marvel at how bad they are. If he's going for a metajoke it's brilliant, but if he's not, then, well . . . it isn't.

The non-vocal majority does not necessarily follow your views - in my experience, the vocal people are actually a somewhat reasonable, if exaggerated, snapshot of the userbase. I suspect that the majority of the userbase thinks the comics stink, judging by the posts on this one.

Really, this comic is like those people who go on American Idol auditions when they just can't sing at all.

I'm in the group "these comics aren't funny but I'll give them a chance." Sometimes it takes a bit to hit a rhythm, and while it'd be nice if they were great right out of the gate, it ain't always possible.

Though one suggestion - make the subject of the comics even more closely aligned with this site. There is rich opportunity for site in-jokes, for depiciting and ridiculing terrible coders, etc. I'd offer suggestions but I prefer to leave it up to you (the comic's author).

But, just because a feature I don't enjoy pops onto the front page every so often in no way means that I don't generally enjoy reading the stuff here. If you don't like it, just skip it.
