    More seriously if that's the phone app I think it is (OSMAndroid) it requires enough space to download a ZIP and then also unzip it. I filed a bug report about the 'GB Europe' download failing silently which turned out to be due to this. The shown error may be their response to this.

    And one thing is clear: these are decimal MB, because 427.9 binary MB is 448685670.4 bytes. WTF is 0.4 bytes?

    I don't think bits should be rounded. Then they roll around when you drop them in the bit bucket and make a lot of noise.

    An auditor, the president's daughter, and the VP of Global Purchasing walked into a store where they saw a glove on sale for 38 million dollars.

    The president's daughter immediately called her dad and asked if she could buy it.

    After she swiped her debit card, the auditor noticed her PIN was only 4 digits, and refused to allow the transaction to continue.

    The VP of Global Purchasing saw a business opportunity and bought the store for half a billion dollars, based on the number of gloves they still had in stock.

    One wonders what kind of code does this comparison. Maybe something like this:

    public static int compareNumber(double n1, double n2)
    {
    	String s1 = Double.toString(n1);
    	String s2 = Double.toString(n2);
    	return s1.compareToIgnoreCase(s2);
    }

    Which, of course, would be a WTF. (Or maybe even more than one.)

    But how else could they get it so ... wrong?

    You think you know a story, but you only know how it ends. To get to the heart of the story, you have to go back to the beginning.

    The VP, auditor and the daughter of the president went to the store. Auditor ratted off to VP of Local Purchase, who was shopping with the wife of VP of Global Purchase. She bought the store for half a billion dollars feigning identity and VP blackmailed the President into allowing the purchase.

    Now do you understand the brilliance of Paula Beans?

    For the last, i don't see what's wrong with having files of several terabyte in a 500GB or 1TB hard disk. That's called sparse files and it's really the most sane way to handle files with holes in it (bittorent-like).

    As people have alluded to, TRWTF is trying to use binary floating-point to represent 427.9 exactly, when it is probably using 427.90000000000003410605131648480892181396484375 instead, which is 7527696408405607/17592186044416. (Of course, the .9 was itself probably rounded in the first place...)
