    Whoa! Discourse

  • (disco)

0xdeaddead? Looks like this article needs to be updated... (EDIT: actually, it’s already listed here)

TIL launching dumps from keyboard is WTF

  • (disco)

I fear the google symbol in front of "Select Language" on the DM site stands for "We only speak english and will just run google translate for any other language".

  • (disco)

@translator do we really need a bulltin board?

  • (disco) in reply to Buddy

They all ignore @PaulaBean threads to keep bots out of the front page comments.

Good help is hard to find.

  • (disco) in reply to Buddy

yeah. although since that list is configurable i can really only guarantee that my three ignore articles and blakeyrat

it is the default setting but that can be configured easily.

To be fair, that has to be enabled by regedit digging and is designed to be used in very specific driver debugging situations... Grandma on her Windows [s]XP[/s] Vista laptop probably won't be launching BSODs from the keyboard

  • (disco) in reply to sloosecannon

Seriously. Grzechooo, How do you propose to generate forced crashdumps from a production server that is experiencing resource hangups? You want to install Visual Studio and hook up your laptop with the debugger running?

On Alphaservers, it's actually the default to be able to press CTRL-P from the console (halting the CPU) and type CRASH. I've used it to debug resource hangups before.

CrashOnCtrlScroll is probably the best registry value.

    Candygram for Mongo!

...this joke can't continue as Mongo doesn't know who he is and is suggesting I try delivering it to Mongo.

    I found mongo!

  • (disco)

Shows them for attempting to use a non-supported product I guess? :watch: Or using a web app for... what? It's not affecting the backdrop or title header, right? I don't spot anything semi-grayed out or obviously missing... :loop: Or, I guess Internet Explorer. 'nuff said.

  • (disco)

I wonder if the mongo one is the beginning of a Discourse install. That's going to be painful.

On a production server? Get a real server with a management card/interface that can trigger NMIs. That way, you can even force the crashdump without driving to the datacenter, and even if it is low level enough so that the USB controller is no longer working (or do you all have servers that still have PS/2 ports?).

Of course, dump on NMI should be enabled in case it is not already. :)

It won't get you a bugcheck code of 0xDEADDEAD, but 0x00000080 if I recall correctly, though.

  • (disco)

Well of course there's no world class talent to be found associated with a Oracle Gold Partner!

I think you can still build yourself a NMI card if you aren't on an all-PCI-Express machine...

(Did PCIe really make everyone use Message Signaled Interrupts for their NMIs? That's lame if it's so...)

Shame. We could escalate the unlocked workstation prank wars to a whole new levels...

But yeah, the real question is: what kind of an engineer forces a bugcheck and then - judging by the amusement - forgets they did so?
