Ah, password security rules — a never-ending source of :wtf:. As for the birth date of 30 February, a period of turmoil and uncertainty sounds entirely plausible, but "ending in a few days" would be very worrisome.

  • (disco)

The bit about the "your password was reset" which doesn't stick out enough: "the password on your account did not meet the criteria required by our new security system" means they used to store your password in a reversible or plaintext manner. :wtf:

I would cancel that Pre Flight airport parking account...

I prefer to think it's the former.

And I like how the error message conveniently covers the flags in the SSMS example, so you can't see what options were set.

@Remy we got a problem. The Front page is not linking to this topic, and it's still unlisted.

Not sure if you're missing the point that Queen also did the soundtracks for Highlander films as well on purpose or not...

Who wants to live forever is in there, FFS!

Oh, I know they did the Highlander films too ;)

I love the checkbox that says "Always show this message" because my head automatically autocompletes it with

[X] Always show this message even if there is no error

It will forever show that Lavazza was not found.

What is the point of this?

The discussion threads get made several days before the article goes "live" (though it's visible at that time if you know the URL). Paula then hides them until the article is "live".

  • (disco) in reply to tharpa

Yes, it's broken again. Someone already tried to summon @Remy, but he hasn't shown up to fix stuff yet. Maybe because it's an error'd, so it's @mark_bowytz's baby. The front page is its own little world, and the integration between that and discourse would make MacGuyver .

I don't know what's worse, that they did a password strength check after storing the user's information in the database or the fact that they've changed it to something so easily bruteforced as Abc123xyz. I hope they don't automatically assign the same password to all accounts with a weak password, at least.

Back to the RAC, it's perhaps worth mentioning that the British motorway system has a kind of load balancer, but it doesn't work at all well. (There is the M6, the M42 and the M6 toll, which is supposed to get more heavily used when there is congestion). Unfortunately the cost for a car is half that for an artic (US semi), and there don't seem to be enough people prepared to pay quite a lot for the privilege of driving further in a slightly shorter time. This despite the fact that the system is cunningly designed to make people who are not paying close attention end up on the toll road. Perhaps the RACs load balancer was designed by the same people who designed the motorway system.

  • (disco) in reply to kupfernigk

If the M6 Toll cost £1.50 instead of £5.50 for cars, a lot more people would use it

  • (disco) in reply to RaceProUK

Exactly. But if it cost £1.50, lots of people would use it and so there would be less congestion on the M6, removing the incentive to use it. The logic is fundamentally flawed. Variable pricing would make sense. What would make even more sense is to ban all other traffic from the M5/M6 when I want to go up North, but I'm having a hard time persuading the government of this.

If it makes you any happier, I've been doing my best to avoid the M6 through that part of the country for decades. It helps that it doesn't actually go anywhere I want to go. (The M42 is sometimes useful to me, but the M6 isn't.)

Unfortunately, in the days when GPT in Liverpool still existed and I had to visit it, the M6 didn't go anywhere I wanted to go but I still had to go there.

    M6...is that like MI-6? I don't know...I don't really "get" Britain.
