Cool !!
Get the megarotic bar and all the girls get a year younger !! |
Isn't that the name of a male chicken? You know, synonym of 'rooster'? <sigh/>
The Real WTF?! is that I can't see anywhere to correctly play that word anyway...
Depends - were they using the SOWPODS or TWL dictionary?
In the Scrabble game of life, expect nothing but vowels. |
How about a little "NSFW"? I had interns nearby!

The submitter has completely the wrong end of the stick, so to speak. "Cock" is a valid word in Scrabble. It means, as any non-idiot knows, "male fowl". In addition, of course, to "penis (vulgar)". That the program rejects it is an error in the program. That the programmer included this error is due to idiot prudery, which deserves only contempt.
Expurgation is rejected by serious Scrabble players. No-one respects the sort of clowns who play on expurgated servers, generally in 10 min a side games (and even so, frantically whisper "hurry up" to each other, as though they resented every second spent playing Scrabble). They have maximum scores of less than 200 points and, under tournament conditions, don't last past round 2. It doesn't really matter what words mean in Scrabble, it's only a curiosity and a memory aid. Words are either playable, or they are not. The most interesting thing about the word "nigger" in Scrabble is that one may play an S at either end. (Or with an I and an N for "reigning", but that's beside the point.) |
Wow @ Jack being filtered, though I can't say this is the first time I've seen such rampant idiocy. As in the side-bar "clbuttic mistake", I've seen words such as "suck", "blow", "fart", and "twink" censored.
You just have to wonder what these people were smoking when they put together the "bad" list. Wow. |
Hey I want my family to see Angelina Jolie's sex video! Who would not!
And that 23/24 yr old... I want to see how she looks at 25! I have a feeling I can guess! |
Grease is the word. Don't get cocky.

I agree. Wasn't this site recently renamed because the name thedailywtf was a little too risqué for work? |
It's not immediately obvious that the potpourri contain more than one image. Consider adding a message on the front page "click 'full article' to see more pictures" - or even better, just include all the pictures on the front page
The scrabble (or in this case, Yahoo's Literati) one is pretty weak. Yahoo's dictionary has been scrubbed for anything that even resembles a naughty word, so it's not surprising. I've had several perfectly legitimate words rejected by that stupid game.
Plus, I suspect the word was attempted for the sole purpose of grabbing that screen shot, and I hate staged WTFs almost as much as staged videos on America's Funniest Home Videos. Dammit, I want more people getting hit in the nuts, not some camera trickery from someone trying too hard to be funny! |

I got hit by "jack" and a content filter once too -- our company used Eudora & we had this "chili pepper" rating to warn you if your email was getting too heated. But it was a global rating -- it didn't (at the time) underline WHICH words were triggering the filter (it does now).
The email was something along the lines of "Be careful not to rip the headphone jack off the dev board -- it's easy to do by accidentally bumping the cable and can't be repaired." Took me ages to find the offending phrase in this sentence in a 3 paragraph email. |
The problem is that they weren't spelling it right, like I did no fewer than three times in this game here:
I think Literati's tile distribution is random, so this sort of nonsense is possible. |

Doh. That post needed a serious double check before submitting.
Probably, if you're about 14 :) In this case, my opponent was my best friend and opportunities to do this kept slapping me in the face. Scrabble's letter distribution also doesn't lend itself to spamming the same word over and over. |
Reminds me of a Scrabble huge score I got by using all my tiles to spell out "nookyier". Had to do some fast talking to get that one by.

Funny thing about that 23/24 year old one. Some of the sites I have seen have ads that try and guess your location based on IP (I assume) and will have ads trying to target your area. I should also mention that our IP likes to change every time the connection goes up and down.
So I get a "Meet people in *City1*" with pictures. A few days later (IP changed, otherwise everything the same) I get a "Meet people in *City2(100+ miles away from first city)*" with the exact same pictures. I don't remember if they changed any information about the people being pictured. All I remember is that the location changed by over a hundred miles and they were the same pictures. |
IF you are an american just remember to not apply it to any 18 year olds!! |
FWIW the site was renamed because, IIRC, the acronym WTF made it hard for Alex to explain the site to his grandma/family due to including a swear word ("Alex, dearie, what does that DailyWTF site you run stand for?" "Umm.. uhh... well, granny...").
Besides that, everyone knows the best way to win at Scrabble is to use the Bart Simpson method: --- BART: Kwyjibo. K-W-Y-J-I-B-O. (rattles off the score it gives him). Game's over, I'm outta here! HOMER: Waittaminute you little cheater, you're not leaving until you tell us what a "Kwyjibo" is. BART: Kwyjibo.. a big, dumb, balding, North American ape. With no chin. MARGE: And a short temper! HOMER: ... I'll show you a big, dumb balding ape!! BART: Uh oh! Kwyjibo on the loose! |
I can! The black bar is slightly smaller than the left one. Boobs still growing? |

To be exact: the black bar in the right is slightly wider but not as high as the left one.
If a valid word like "cock" (which can be taken in a vulgar way, I admit) offends you, then you might be responsible for writing this software. Better idea: let's just eliminate anything and everything that might be offensive to someone. StickyWidget your name offends me because I don't like when I get jelly on my hands. Or semen. |

So, does Alex prefer saying hey, granny, check out my non-vulgarly named worse than failure website. It has people trying to put "cock" in Scrabble-like game, a reference to "Jack" being unacceptable because of possible sexual connotations, and links to an Angelina Jolie sex scene being prominently displayed (Yes, I know the link isn't present, and it is juxtaposed (hey, wasn't that Wednesday's gag) against the family friendly content filter). I just kind of remember that Alex had said something to the effect that this is a more politically correct name (safer for the work environment). Now you have "cock" as the front picture on the main page. I know people who would sue for sexual harassment at the drop of a hat (the person I know particularly is very stupid, and thinks that's how you get ahead in this world is to sue people, she would never have any hope of winning, but generally making life miserable (oh, and you have to ignore the fact that she requests people download hardcore pornography for her, because she trades them to her drug dealer for discounts)) Sorry, went on a tangent there, anyway, since it might be considered somewhat dangerous, I think it would be better to just have a "This might be NSFW" warning on today's Error'd. |
Cock was blocked due to the violent reference associated with guns. You could however use cockface or cockslap.
I can think of another word that can be spelled with the available letters, and it actually puts two other valid words on the board as well ("rum" and "ace").
Unfortunately, I can't find "ksieve" in any dictionary. :-P |
I hate it when that happens |
The real WTF on the megarotic toolbar is that neither of them will sleep with me

Yeah I've seen those too, only I saw two identical pictures with different names and different cities. On the same page! But hey, twins aren't that unsual, I think I'm going to send an email after all... But to which one?!? |

He played "dopamine." How is that not funny? |
Yep. They do the geoip thing, but basically stuff random names and pictures to the ad - which is hilarious. It correctly thinks I'm in Finland, but the pictures and names don't quite have that, uh, local feel. Should I laugh or cry? |

Didn't the "After Dark" reference in the title kind of give it away that the content might be NSFW? captcha: bathe; I need to. |
That last one makes perfect sense: the filter filters out family-appropriate content, leaving the Angelina Jolie sex ad.
Duke: "Quyzbuk"
Marty: "That's not a word!" Duke: [dials phone] "Get Webster on the phone. Noah, how ya doing? It's Duke. How much would it cost to make quyzbuk a word? [pauses] I don't know what it means, uh, how about... a big problem? Great! How 'bout that other word I invented, 'Dukelicious'? Nobody's using it? What a Duketastrophe!" |

No, it's because the link doesn't go anywhere where you'd get to see any nudity. Or at least not before you let them steal lots of money from you. |
OK, one more comment: if you think THAT scrabble night is rough, check this one out:
http://www.overheardinnewyork.com/archives/010422.html Very, very, very, very NSFW language (text, no audio). |
Hey! I'm not a pervert! PS: Where can I watch the Angelina Jolie sex scene?

I travel between Australia and the US quite often, and imagine my surprise when the same people kept following me around, too! |
It's interesting how it gets to the urinary tract from the anus. And how does one amputate the anus, for that matter? |
About the last one (Angelina Jolie sex scene ad):
I notice the Zango logo on that ad. Zango is adware that generates lots of popups. I don't know whether it also "hijacks" web pages' banner ads by replacing them with its own ads (as some other adware does). If so, it would mean that the website probably tried to place another (family safe) ad there, but it got replaced client-side by Zango. |
