Thats not really amazing, he might have asked someone else to plug in the monitor because he is a little clumsy and felt he might end up yanking out more than one cable... perhaps.

Oh and, installing the drivers? Well I actually remember reading a review of a monitor that had two drivers, one for the screen and one for the audio (it had a volume/balance control and two speakers on the front). So it might not be that amazing.

Seriously, bullshit like this makes me wonder why I don't just act like a total retard, you know, like the boss in Dilbert, and then get a highly paid manager job, so I can play rollercoaster with my office chair all day. Bah.

Reminds me of a colleague of mine that come into our office one day and said:
Mind you I am from Israel, we speak Hebrew, but all of the people in the Hi-Tech have very good English (for the most part), any way this is what he said:
"I see that the company has bought us new monitors, I saw the boxes in the hallway. Tell me, this company, ‘Fragile’ are it any good?”

Uh oh, I think I know this guy. He might be the one who plugged the BNC connector from his DEC VT220 into the company Ethernet, which really is a way of using a monitor to mess up a network.

Only thing that has been fun at my work, is that we now have to report that we have nothing to report!!

We fill out time sheets, which of course have no hours logged against certain projects. That is not good enough. We now are required to send an email to the project manager that we have no hours on our time sheet against their project.

btw, the project managers do see our time sheets...

drive, or writing software?



The CTO doesnt necessarily have to be savvy about how a PC monitor
works, or even how to hook one up properly. Rather, they have to
understand the business and how to apply computers to solve the
business problems.

If a CTO thinks that plugging in his monitor is going to mess up the network, I'd have questions about his ability to apply computers to solve the business problems. Sure, if he has some good people working for him, he may get by, but it sounds like they put an unqualified person in the position.

The Hansol comment makes it sound like he's trying to bluff his way through things.

I'll grant you that the speaker driver thing isn't really much of a wtf.

Sometimes non-technical people really don't understand how far over their head technical matters can be. I remember in my days as a data entry/user support person, my manager described what our department was doing as "Software Engineering." Our department wasn't doing anything even close to software engineering, though we did write some of the requirements for the software. Another time he used the phrase, "Just an engineer." It wouldn't have surprised me if a guy like that had dubbed himself CTO, if he thought he could get away with it.
