@sir ram: If you look at the "Stupid Price" you'll find that it's higher than the regular price. CAPTCHA: xevious That's Lord Xevious, to you! |
|
I get things like this all the time from TigerDirect. The sale price is 229.00 buy while quantities last and under it in smaller print is the normal price 199.00 or similar, I think I got one as recently as Monday with an incorrect price. I just love the fact they call it a stupid deal, the irony is nice.
|
|
This is actually funny, I picked up on that deal (Its was actually reg 14.99, stupid price 9.99 they fixed it later on). Just a couple of caps and a higer gain transistor later and it was a decent sounding pedal.

Are you serious....WTF |
|
The WTF here is that anyone would buy a rogue pedal for either $14.99 or $9.99...
|
|
Dood, that pedal is like 50% better, man. You're payin' for, like, the quality, ya know? I would totally pay, like, 50% more for that, bro.
|
There's no WTF here...it's disclaimed as a "stupid deal" and that's what it is. "BUY AND SAVE! BUY AND SAVE! THE MORE YOU BUY, THE MORE YOU SAVE!" |

I mean, it's ok. But it doesn't go up to 11.

Yeah, but in 40 years people will be buying them for $1000 in the original box. I had a dream about Hiwatts last night... is that wrong? |

The Real WTF is it took 13 comments to get here. This should have been number 2. C'mon people. |
|
For $9.99 regularly, that's not a very good distortion pedal. I don't think raising the price increases the quality.
|
You have to remember that, surprisingly, we don't get a lot of real Python (Monty)-grade computer geeks here. It's mostly corporate code monkeys who blather on about Java and antipatterns. |

Well, besides the monkeys, there are also the ones that confuse Monty Python for Spinal Tap. Don't forget about those guys. If you do they may spontaneously combust. |
Yeah, but in 40 years, what will $1,000 be worth at this rate? |

Actually you know what? the REAL WTF is that my company uses Visual Sourcesafe for 80 gigs of data and getting latest of anything takes so long that I stop and browse websites and forget to get back to work when it's done. *sigh* |
No, dumbass, I didn't. Python love is the canonical test of a computer geek's proper cultural upbringing. |

Well, not just a $5 increase. You need to go higher. If you sell that pedal for $105.95, now there's a quality piece of equipment.... |

I've spent quite a bit on money on that site. What's even more of a WTF is their stock management system. The due dates on items not stock in the warehouse are horribly wrong. If it's out of stock, just get it somewhere else cause they'll hose you.

I suppose I should clarify, I made a ten dollar pedal sound like a 30 dollar pedal. I didn't turn a rouge pedal into a marshall stack.

The 11 thing is from 'This is Spinal Tap', no? |
I think he's probably meaning 'Python-esque', rather than saying it is from Python. Geeks that are into Python and quote it endlessly probably also know their Spinal Tap. |

Well, since they invented \m/ ROCK'N'ROLL BABY \m/ Some people spend a lot of time trying to get just the right distortion sound. I know I do. Wait, I know what the Real WTF is, I'm sitting here posting on worsethanfailure.com when I could be pissing off the downstairs neighbors... *goes and tunes heavily customized Peavey Predator and turns up the crunch* |

Agreed. Even a distortion pedal should have good tone. And believe me, there is a difference. I haven't tried out a Rogue pedal, but I did make the mistake of purchasing a DOD Grunge pedal before I knew any better. Compared to BOSS/Marshall/Mesa Boogie it sounds like trash. |

The rouge was soo freaking tinny it was actually painfull to listen too. It also did nothing to smooth out its trasistor switching distorion. Horrid sound. |

Yeah, but only the drummer |
I would not be surprised if I am the only one on this board who was once co-president of a club called The Monty Python Society. It says so on my resume. Given that, I know embarrassingly little of the Flying Circus. |

Yes - it is much more fun to track down some randomly missing semicolon or curly brace in a 10,000 line Perl program... I've actually used both (and other languages) extensively and find Python the better solution for small or large jobs - save imbedded and real-time applications (which I would use C or Assembly for). |
|
Damn, missed this one.
The real WTF is why would anyone want to use a pedal over the sweet tone of a valve amp. I've tried loads of pedals, but nothing sounds better than my Marshall. |

What you want is tubes, boy... Ibanez do a rather nice tube-based distortion pedal called the TS9 (iirc).
