Comment On New Site and A Sincere Thank-you

As you probably have noticed, there's a completely different system powering the site: Community Server :: Forums. I think it'll work a lot better, as half the fun of this blog is the comments. The front page has remained the same (although I'd love to see it redesigned one of these days), and RSS feeds will still available using the same URL, although they've been increased to 25 items. In addition, the site has been moved to a server of its own at a real data center. Let's hope that speeds things up.Of course, none of this would have been possible without the generous donation of Small Business Server 2003 Premium. After reading that SQL Server was out of my price range, Raymond Chen and some of the other wonderful folks at Microsoft chipped in to buy SBS03 (which of course includes the SQL Server software required to power the site on a new server). Thanks Raymond et al, I really appreciate it. You guys are terrific! [expand full text]

Holy crap! WTFs at lightning speed. And no more refreshing the page 3 times to get it to load. Awesome stuff.

Thanks for your efforts Alex and thanks to all you MS folks for helping out.

Kent

The fact that this site is running on a Microsoft platform is the biggest WTF of all.

When in doubt, go with what you know.

Unless you want it to be a learning experience.

The "comments" link in my RSS reader now no longer links to the comments.  That sucks.

Looks good!  Nice software, too.

It will be nice to have a regular user list, this is developing into a pretty fun community.  Also, it will be easier for people to be held accountable for some of their comments !

I think the best part is being able to see which topics have recent comments so that they are not missed!

Keep up the great work, and keep the WTF's comming !

- Jeff

I just want to point out that almost all of your recent posts are being double posted in Bloglines.

The new site is great. I like the design too however I think the old site had slightly better organization and I liked the monthly archive and the way I could see the rest of the stuff... perhaps I'm just used of it but to some extent I liked the old one better.

... I reserve the right to change my mind later and especially if you put something similar to the monthly archives on the home page somewhere on the left or some link for it ... something...

However this is still my favorite site and I'd wish to thank again to everyone spending efforts to keep it up and running. You guys are great :)

Jeff, I think Editing Posts are disabled for now. I may change it to a very small window (20 mins) if possible.

good call -- a small window would be perfect.  just to fix typos.  That's a great feature, if the forum allows you to set a time limit on edits.  Very cool!

The new site is great, and one suggestion to make it even better. It would be awesome to be able to quickly spot the date-ordered WTF, perhaps in the subject line of the post? It is hard to follow on the main level of the forums, especially when somebody posts to an older WTF.. does this post make sense? cheers folks, drew..
