Alex Papadimoulis:

No, this next one isn't really computer related ... but Ben did appreciate the new definition of "fully-assembled" for this product at Target ...

It's also not a WTF. It tells you the dimensions when it is fully assembled, not that it currently is assembled.

Re: Pop-up Potpourri: It's Getting a Little NaN Outside

2006-11-10 13:41 • by Hux

The Target one is kinda lame.  I think it's pretty obvious that they're specifying the dimensions when fully assembled.  The others are gold :)

Wow, only one non-WTF in the friday grab-bag.  Are things finally getting better?

The "19" x 46" Fully Assembled" statement means that the device measures 19x46 when fully assembled.  It does not imply that the device comes fully assembled.

What is the meteo "applet" in the last entry ?

I kind of like the theme, and I would like to steel it ;-)

Jason was pretty pleased that UPS was able to ship his order back in time. Next step: sending it to his address instead of some place in Virginia ...

OK, call me stupid if you like, but after staring at this for a good few minutes I've completely failed to spot the WTF. I guess it's either because a) I live in the UK so am unfamiliar with some key aspect of US geography and/or postal regulations, or b) because I'm being a total muppet.

Could someone clarify please?

Look at the delivery location up top, and then down below

One says Linden, VA the other says Front Royal, VA

If you look at the delivery location on the top half of the page, you see that it was delivered to the front door, in Linden, VA.  The bottom half indicates that it was delivered to Front Royal, VA, which is a separate city, about 20km away.

The UPS WTF - apparently they re-use their tracking numbers. It says that "billing information was received" in October 2006, and the delivery was made in June 2006...

I don't get this one... Maybe a bit confusing between what the distinction is, but a WTF?

It was pretty clear to Justin what some one on his campus was trying to say. Now if only he could find where this roommate was and if she was cute ...

The real WTF here is that the top line says "TigerNet --- Not Connected", but below "You are currently connected to this network."

What's that about? (I haven't used wireless personally... I don't have a laptop.)

Jason was pretty pleased that UPS was able to ship his order back in time. Next step: sending it to his address instead of some place in Virginia ...

I also like how it was delivered three and a half months before it was sent, and without being picked up or transferred through any holding facilities first.

Linden and Front Royal are adjacent, it's not surprising that a driver might not know the exact physical boundary between them.

Seriously, it was not a hyperlink.

However, in the defense of the software, it was a Beta2 release of Microsoft Max. I tried clicking everywhere, and those words were certainly not hyperlinked. Perhaps they fixed this already.

Now that I look at it again, I see it. To my (and Igal's) credit, the surround color makes it much harder to notice. Heres the full image:

Not only that but being links, they are misrepresenting themselves as relevant information linked by the producer of the page.

The local library has something which puts these things on *all* pages the PCs retrieve. Makes me want to puke.

Possibly the next innovation for Firefox would be to get rid of these?

The problem is that that sentence can be parsed two ways. Back in time, as in 1.21 jigowatt back in time, or as in "Jason received something and sent it back through UPS, which they managed in time".
