It was that time again. The Daily WTF needed yet another new look. I don’t know about you, but the pastel look wasn’t quite working for me anymore. While I could go on and on about the new “missing corners” look and gradient heading colors of the new theme, let’s take a peek into TDWTF-past at some of the old looks…

And speaking of Community Server, the TDWTF forums have been updated to the latest and greatest version of CS.
Although the new layout was tested in the major browsers, please let me know if you have any issues or problems with it.

I really like the new look, it adds quite a bit of energy to the website.

I think you should've gone with a more cutting-edge rounded-corners look. It would really work towards orchestrated full compliance with Web 2.0 Standards©.
Though it could potentially repurpose the niches where you're acting, it would also further leverage this site and engage everyone in a much rich collaborative community while also providing ubiquitous and scalable convergence for synergizing deploymentation of contents and commentaries. If you want to succeed and empower your mission-critical e-business, you need to revolutionize your strategic channels. Throw in a little XML somewhere and you're finally like totally enterprisey. |

Same here. But now it's actually come through, I actually quite like it. |

Version 3.0 is clearly the best, but maybe you could incorporate some elements from v0.1 to help with user migration. Also, don't forget to add some javascript pop-up menus, those things are all class - bonus points if they only work in IE.

My only constructive comment is that I agree with the posters who find having the navigation bar on the left distinctly unnerving. Mind you, I'm not Arabic.
Want a deconstructive comment? (Roll up, roll up...) I'm intrigued by the number of respondents who actually care that much about Web look-n-feel. Granted, there are hideous monsters out there (charcoal grey type on navy blue background, anyone?), but any sane design that features a lot of white in the background, a lot of black type in the foreground, and a few decorative splashes of colour is fine. I doubt anyone here so far has had the displeasure of designing newspaper ads in the '80s -- "First spot colour for free; each additional, £500." Liked the evolutionary history, though. It moves me to suggest a novel use of CSS and cookies: why not allow a web-site to be skinned? That way, the vast majority of punters who would prefer TDWTF to appear as though it was printed out, laid on a wooden table, and photographed, would be justly rewarded; and I'd still have my Version 0.1. I still get all nostalgic when I look at that. PS Apparently "pastelicious" is not a word. It is now. In fact, it's currently my favouritest word in the whole world. Brillant! PPS Don't you have a life, for crying out loud? Don't any of these people? Don't I? Addendum (2008-01-19 19:09): Back in the day, I never noticed that the ruled paper for TDWTF was inverted so that the margin was on the right-hand side. Is this anything to do with the fact that the navigation bar is currently in a really dumb place? |

Can I have all the old corners?

I don't know why so many people are bitching about the menu being on the left-side. According to good web design principles (Anyone heard of those? Doubt it) navigation menus are supposed to be either across the top or on the left-hand side. Personally, the only thing I don't like is the weird cut-off corners. IMO rounded corners look better. I'm also not a fan of the "pea soup Exorcist vomit" green color. The red and the blue are fine, but while the green is complimentary to the red, it's out of place.
Other than that, I like the new design. But it needs more JavaScript. And XML. And AJAX. :-) |

The 70s are calling - they'd like their colour scheme back.

Yes indeedie. I've noticed an awful lot of professionals offering to help on this one (as opposed to just offering to bitch). Presumably, "Not quitting your day job" for a Professional Web Designer (with side-bar) means "Pay me or I'll thcweam and thcweam til I'm blue in the face." Who are you people, anyway? W3C Nazis (forfeiting argument for the sake of gratuitous insult), or just tiny-minded introverts? And personally I still prefer puke-green. |
