Please, regardless of whether some people think it's funny or not, move this off the front page. The amount of allowable noise is taken up by ads already, I don't need this on there too, bumping the stuff I visit for off the bottom of my screen.

Note from Alex: To help quell the bounty of boo-hooing over the need to use a "scroll bar" to bypass certain content, MFD is now displayed on the front page only in "Full Articles" view. If any further customizations are needed, please provide me with your IP Address your specific requirements so I can build a site just for you. Now, cue the "you're just doing that to increase page views" whining in 3... 2...

I applaud the attempts, especially since you are new to the world of web comics, but I am sure I can’t be the only one who doesn’t find them funny or witty.

I remember reading somewhere on this site that so many entries are received every day, that not all of them are posted (at least not in a timely manner,) so why not just post an extra entry a day instead of this web comic?

Matt: the comic isn't more work for the people posting the articles. An article would be.

I actually like the comic (*feels in the minority*), but Fred's right. Stop explaining them.

I've been reading The Daily WTF for years now. It was bad when the content moved from code to poor excused for articles. Fortunately, I can ignore those. It was worse when they started running ads. Thank goodness for AdBlock! But now - this comic - that's it, I quit. This is my last comment, and, consequently, my last visit to The Daily WTF.

I liked the linux open sourcer and the cowboy. The recruiter and contractor door have both left me going "um... why's that funny?". Perhaps I just don't have enough real world experience to see the jokes. That being said, trolls are like sharks, they can smell blood, so you might be better off to stop with the apology paragraphs. Say "It's funny, so STFU noob" and leave it at that.

Seriously...I have been reading the site for a while but I've never actually commented. I'm doing this for one reason now:
Please, please, PLEASE stop publishing those comics here on the front page. If you really want to keep making them then do it in some sub-category so those who absolutely don't find them funny or witty (like me) can more easily ignore them.

By shoving them out to the front page to people who are beginning to get annoyed by them doesn't help making them more funny or liked.

Here's an idea, make a comic relevent to then sites content. Create web comics that succinctly reflect an article for that day, have the comic follow the article.

This does many things, keeps the site on target, gets to comic off the front page, provides more content, and still retains the comic in a visible location when reading the full article. Also no more need to explain them because the will accompany an article.

I know this might seem like it will require prior knowledge of the upcoming articles but you could simply do this with the sidebar post that gets promoted.

And yes, we all are critics. Look at this site, we are here to be critical. The first thing an artist needs is thick skin, talent is second.

I liked this comic. I remember one gig as a contractor they gave me a tiny half-cube to work in and the computer didn't even fit on the desk and people were running into the back of my chair all the time because it was so cramped. The employees all got regular cubes, though. It was with a medical device company, and it was so unergonomic I needed to see a chiropractor after a month. So, yes, I see the humor in this.

George:

Humor is quickly lost once explained. Your comics are good. With work, they will get better.

But explaining them, IMHO, reduces their worth. My suggestion is to put your comics out there and feel confident in their ability to stand on their own.

Once again, you don't suck, so just keep at it.

Dear Alex,

I really enjoy these comics when visiting this site, but that is as far as my enjoyment goes. I do not appreciate the wide variety of content that is available on this site. CodeSOD? Please, how is that even funny, the code is filled with bugs! Are you saying ALL PROGRAMMERS ARE INCOMPETENT?! I find that offensive.

What about Error'd? If I wanted to take screen shots, I could do that myself! I have a keyboard, you know...geez.

Please, PLEASE remove Feature Articles, CodeSOD, Tales from the Interview, Alex's Soapbox and Best of the Sidebar. They suck because I say so. They also prevent me from finding the comics as easily as I want because I have to use the - the... oh I can't even say it...THE SCROLL BAR! I'm sorry for the foul language. Also, say I wanted to see last week's comics again: I just want them too appear on the front page. You should predict this rework the site daily to fit my needs. Also, don't worry about the other readers, I speak for all of them.

-Stupidumb III Esq.

Why is it so hard to keep on topic? Why does Alex constnatly try to invent new things on the site that have nothing to do with the content?

Stick to the basics. Stick to what the daily wtf is for. About stories and interesting things in the IT industry that make you go "WTF?!?!" - If you want a comic blog, go for it, make a comic blog, but don't try to force these (very poor) comics onto your captive audience.

Folks come to thedailywtf to read interesting articles and stories, not help jump start Yet Another Bad Online Webcomic.

I would have went with the current employees griping about how "those contractors are stealing our jerbs!" Though, this depiction isn't 100% accurate: most contractor doors also have rows of barbwire and a pit of mud to crawl through as well.

I like the storyline setting for it so far. Though the kind of comments here make me think that the same people would pick up Wuthering Heights and say "This book is crap, I have read two pages and all that happened is some lame explanation of the current season in London. LAME!"

It'd be interesting to check out how many people haven't replied to one of the comic strips yet. Because, most probably, that non-vocal majority (including myself) actually thinks that the comics are fine, and fit the site and its theme perfectly (except for the fact that they're optimized for >1024x768, which is somewhat of a PITA for me).

I simply don't have any bullshit to throw at them like some others here feel the need to do, and I guess quite some others feel the same.

Keep 'em coming, I say!

OK guys, here's the solution. We need a new setting in addition to the Summary/Full Article one. It's called Normal/OMG Old Skool. Normal setting is the same as we have now. OMG Old Skool is for all these whiners. Instead of displaying all articles, it just displays DailyWTF articles from 2006. It also makes their comments invisible to everyone else.

Seriously, how about a menu where we can check/uncheck the different types of articles to display on the front page? I like all of the articles personally, but I think this should be a pretty simple fix to keep everyone happy.

In light of an earlier comment, I feel obliged to say that I don't really like the webcomic. The style is cluttered, the art is too poor for any material requiring visual humour and the material is old.

It occurs to me that more private development time is necessary to bring the comic up to the standard of the rest of the site.

Having said that, I'm quite happy to read it on the off chance that it finds its way and becomes funny at some point.

George, don't worry too much about the detractors. New content is like pizza. No matter where you get it from, some loudmouths are inevitably going to complain, "this sucks! Garry's Pizza-Down-The-Street makes waaaaaaay better pizza than this."

Keep at it.

I've never posted a comment here before, but I've been reading for about a year.

I like comics, and don't mind having them on the frontpage, but this one is really terrible.

I don't mind the bad art, and I don't feel offended by the stereotypes, but these jokes are tired, predictable, and just not funny.

I remember when they used this joke on the Simpsons years ago.

Please, stop with the comics. This is The Daily WTF, a place where we come to read about outrageous things that really happened. Sometimes those things are uproariously hilarious, and sometimes they are only mildly funny.

Yes, George's drawing skills are improving, and yes, I am sure one day one of the jokes will be almost funny. But this is not the place for comics. Please, stick them on the sidebar or host them somewhere else.

I don't want to see the core mission of this site diluted by a web comic about nerddom -- my god, those are a dime a dozen on this internet.

You know what? I take it all back. I was alternating between posting a complaint, looking into ways to block the comic, and thinking of unsubscribing from the feed.

But now I realize that I don't want to miss it. I want to laugh at the futile effort of the comic, then come in here and listen to the hordes mocking it, and the apologists' weak attempts at rationalizing its continued existence.

Well played, guys. Your subversive attempt at increasing readership loyalty by decreasing quality has hooked me. Worse is indeed better.

Really, this comic is like those people who go on American Idol auditions when they just can't sing at all.

It's just not funny. I mean, it's not. The author clearly tries hard but seems to have left the funny in his other pants; I'd think it's his friends' responsibility to tell him this.

I'm in the group "these comics aren't funny but I'll give them a chance." Sometimes it takes a bit to hit a rhythm, and while it'd be nice if they were great right out of the gate, it ain't always possible.

Though one suggestion - make the subject of the comics even more closely aligned with this site. There is rich opportunity for site in-jokes, for depiciting and ridiculing terrible coders, etc. I'd offer suggestions but I prefer to leave it up to you (the comic's author).

Get over yourself, or get off the internets.

You know, I don't like CodeSOD. I don't code, so it really holds no relevance for me. But, just because a feature I don't enjoy pops onto the front page every so often in no way means that I don't generally enjoy reading the stuff here. If you don't like it, just skip it. So many of you sound like those internet n00bs over at Livejournal who cry LJ CUT PLZ whenever something appears that sullies their friends list. Here's a tip: join the 21st century and use an RSS reader. If you don't know what one is, don't know why you should use one, or can't be bothered to use one...well, then The Daily WTF is probably too highbrow for you, anyways.

Maybe it strikes out sometimes, but who doesn't? Thanks, Alex and company, for entertaining with some truly WTFs.
