For a guy who shares my name, this is kind of insulting.

His get*() math functions are even wrong!

Nope, that's the only way I know how, although I did find a page outlining the steps: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/560684/svn-obliterate
Looking at this link again, it's a perfect example of how ridiculously easy it is to completely trash your SVN repository.

Read the comments on it to see why.

Because he was using the shell incorrectly, overwriting a dump file (like you could with any other VCS)? Which, by the way, is not the same as the repository, which even his erroneous shell code didn't touch. svnadmin does not allow you to overwrite an existing repository either, you have to rm -rf the old version yourself.

There is an inherent danger of data loss when it comes to purging information, though. The whole point of backups is making sure there are multiple copies of the data. The whole point of purging is making sure there are no copies of (a certain version of) the data. So anyone who wants to purge some information must necessarily undermine the safety net provided by backup (which in this case means at least keeping the old repository around for some time).

dave.cpp could have been a whimsical psycho-philosophical journey expounding on the long term impact of societally embraced, reflexive fetishes on the gene pool, or the basis for a generalization of traits into alleles in a sexual algorithm about sexuality. Instead it lacks creativity at all possible levels.

Instead it looks like he was literally killing time.
