You lost a computer and call that a maple sirup incident?

This is a real maple sirup incident!

  • Anon (unregistered) in reply to Adam

Agreed. Sure it's spammy internet behavior, but this was just being a jerk.

    Unsubscribed.

  • Bret (unregistered)

It takes initiative and effort to keep a spammer going for that long. My hat is off to you, sir.

  • someone (unregistered)

If that image is really Amy's page, I bet she got a lot of traffic from people googling for the page name

  • Barry (unregistered) in reply to Adam

You are not a killjoy... you are something much worse. Not only did you manage to miss the entire point of the conversation you turned it into a sexual harassment case. Also blurting out all this and then saying I don't think you meant it like that does not make it any less offensive.

People like you scare me, you sound like you would sue for sexual harassment if you happened to be on the other end of this conversation.

    Lighten up!

    You naughty naughty man.

I am going to sic our "beloved" Prime Minister onto you. I understand she has become famous overseas for her attack on misogynists & sexists everywhere

CAPTCHA : pecus - oh noes you have done it again

    Adam:
No, I'm not saying that you meant it like that, but that's just how it looks,
    2 me 2 'cos I'v a dirty mind.

However in defense of Alex I trust him to no that a know is a no, unless of course define no yes.

  • Taro (unregistered) in reply to Adam

I thought the joke was that the odds are even that it's not really a woman.

For some serious spammer-baiting, check out:

    http://scamorama.com

In particular, see the exchange where I sent the spammer an EXE for "electronic funds transfer" -- and he actually ran it!

I'd feel bad for her, except that she works for the devil. If it were a man corrupting the indexing that keeps the web going, I'd feel that you were justified in using equally harsh treatment.

    Adam:
Feel free to call me a humo[u]rless killjoy etc., etc.

    Humourless killjoy!

  • Jim (unregistered) in reply to Adam

I had exactly the same reaction. Spammers deserve to be frustrated somehow, but unwelcome romantic suggestions are probably over the top. Oh, well. With any luck, "Amy" wasn't actually a woman at all.

  • (cs)

You should have kept her going just long enough to print out the article, take a photo of it on a wooden table, and post that.

    =(

  • Huh? (unregistered) in reply to Adam

I thought you were a girl until I saw your name.

  • Rattus rattus (unregistered)

"Now, as you promised, could you please send a picture of yourself to me? Preferably, in an outdoor location with trees and/or grass."

You missed a great opportunity here. You should have asked for a picture of her lying on a wooden table.

Adam: You're a humourless killjoy. Being a spammer makes you fair game, not being a woman.

Alex: You might like this site if you don't know about it already:

    http://www.419eater.com/

It's a whole community of people who do to internet scammers what you've done to this spammer.

  • Sergey (unregistered)

I don't think it is something bad. If that would be true romantic story that;d be even better. Especially knowing she promised to send a photograph.

I tried to engage some conversations with spammers myself, but as soon as they start to feel I don't mean business they all stopped responding.

I think this hypocrisy about abusing females is spent by not very clever people - people need to communicate, and both genders have their ways to do so, and these protocols were established a long time ago. If these hypocrites had their ways, humanity would stop copulating decades ago.

    Adam:
Meh. Yes, spammers deserve everything they get. OTOH, this does look rather a lot a continuation of the pattern that Being Female On The Net makes you fair game for romantic/sexual overtures from any males that you happen to interact with, (and that in this case, the femaleness of the spammer is the thing used to mock/attack her).

No, I'm not saying that you meant it like that, but that's just how it looks, and I'm not 100% sure that it's a good thing to be perpetuating in a world where there's way too much of that sort of thing already.

Feel free to call me a humo[u]rless killjoy etc., etc.

I am totally cool with this. We men must suppress our reproductive urges so that our species can peacefully die out to make way for the cute little dolphins.

  • robots.txt (unregistered)

You should have uploaded the article to a page with norobots, so google wouldn't see it (defeating their point). Leave it up for just long enough to get the photo :) then take it down of course.

  • Dan (unregistered) in reply to Adam

    Yeah, I gotta agree.

  • Khan (unregistered) in reply to Adam

Her picture is on her link profile what a hottie

  • tobol1 (unregistered)

one of the funniest on daily wtf thanks for posting

  • Manuel (unregistered) in reply to Adam

You are a humo[u]rless killjoy etc., etc. (Sorry, I had to... :P)

I don't even think the spammer was female, but has chosen to appear female to gain more responses.

Well but in general you're right with your argument. Females should not be reduced to their femaleness.

  • ross (unregistered) in reply to Adam

are you sure Amy is a woman?

  • anonymous (unregistered)

Amy was the one who started the flirting; her second e-mail had three smileys in it.

Whether that's flirting or just overly friendly, it's definitely inappropriate for a brand-new business relationship.
