    Mark Shuttleworth is from South Africa, but he lives in London, and Canonical is based in Europe.

    Founded in late 2004, Canonical Ltd is a company headquartered in Europe with over 200 employees working in 23 countries (and counting). Canonical is the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu project.

    I actually also thought it was from South Africa too, until just a moment ago, but I looked it up because I was curious.
