    Forgot to say, no it was never a propriety server from some random (canadian?)company, it was all done with some perl codes, using a standard apache web server....

    When you have this in the dailywtf.com source code?

    /* WTF would TDWTF be without a hack like this? / if (document.getElementById && document.getElementById('MainContent') && document.getElementById('MainContent').style && document.getElementById('CommonSidebar') && document.getElementById('CommonSidebar').offsetHeight) { / since there is no "good way" to have a "liquid" and a "stretchy" column without tables(*), I'll use this bit of hackery. It usually doesn't work in FireFox (since offsetHeight isn't known until rendering is done), but it tends to work OK in everything else most of the time and doesn't create a "jumpy" effect */ document.getElementById('MainContent').style.minHeight = document.getElementById('CommonSidebar').offsetHeight;

            //* If there is a good way, let me know and I'll mail you a couple
            //  WTF Stickers!

    Hi Ayden,

    i like it when someone explains the rationale behind some of the wtf-or-not-wtf-ery.

    Thanks for that!

    A WTF is when you change the background to black thinking you are protecting the (not so?) innocent... Just do CTRL+A to unproctect!

    PS: you wouldn't happen to be a military would you?... :D

  • Nick (unregistered) in reply to Mike D.

    The semicolon after that would be useless. It really doesn't matter.

    The fact that it is both black and didn't delete is the real wtf

    I didn't even know anyone tried to black out any text until I saw this comment.

    We learned a rather valuable and somewhat embarrassing lesson about code commenting during a managers' meeting. Our favorite manager (we'll call her Jane Doe), was demonstrating a piece of our ColdFusion site that we had developed for her. This woman was the bane of our existence. She was very adamant about what she wanted and how she wanted it without any care to how it should actually be done. We did a lot of really stupid coding to appease her. I'm sure we all know people like this. Anyway, for those of you familiar with ColdFusion, you know that if an untrapped error occurs, it will show you the error plus the 3 or 4 lines above and below it. This isn't good when those 3 lines above consist of something along the lines of

    <!--- I can't believe this stupid ***** keeps making us do retarded **** like this. She is the main reason why our application is so f'd up. --->

    Needless to say, we were shortly thereafter given the directive to clean up our comments. Or at the very least add 7 or 8 spaces above and below that comment.

    On a related note, I used to have a snippet that I used more than I cared to that basically said

    Please don't blame me for the following code. The Boss made me do it this way.

    The last element does not require a semicolon.

    The best part is that you could just as easily select over the darkened area with your mouse to reveal the mystery email address.

    Don't need the semi-colon after the last rule.

    Why you bother to look at the html code, you can just hilight the black patch to read the word hidden after it

    Ok, I have to ask... who looks at page source code for no reason? Is there someone out there who enjoys this?

    Seriously, who are you people?

    We are strange creatures... lurking in the darkness... waiting... searching...

  • Leo M (unregistered) in reply to Mike D.

    You do not even need to look at the source code; selecting the text will do the trick.

  • John (unregistered) in reply to Mike D.

    Just select the text, u can see the email id :P

    I think its by mistake :D

  • Deepak (unregistered) in reply to Mike D.

    No need to see the source. Just select the text and you'l see the persons name.

  • DK (unregistered) in reply to Mike D.

    You looked at the source? I just highlighted the text
