Four out of seven, actually. NYNEX and Bell Atlantic are now Verizon, and US West is part of Qwest.

The toothpaste one isn't a WTF because the poisoned toothpaste was counterfeit. It shouldn't harm Colgate's reputation.

Judging by the responses here, the word 'counterfeit' doesn't display in all web browsers...

That reminds me a funny story. Few years ago I wanted to subscribe to Bell ExpressVU (Satelite TV from Bell in Canada) so I went to Bell web site and I typed ExpressVU in their search box. It turns out that they were outsourcing their search engine to a third party. The end result was a full page of results on how to hack and steal ExpressVU ... on a Bell web page !

It's FOX News, Yahoo, and MNBC - all of which are on a campaign to confuse and befuddle America with their obvious lies, and misdirection.

I did not find it surprising at all.

But the REAL WTF is how so many people looked at this and mentioned you can't control content.

CAPTCHA: burned - You certainly were.

From now on, whenever an Error'd is posted, it should begin with a "Click here if you're a retard" link. In the link, it will describe what Error'd actually is: "Error'd features fun error messages and other visual oddities from the world of IT."

Error'd isn't necessarily about terrible coding or business practices (though those are often behind it). Anybody who posts "Not a WTF" on an Error'd article needs beaten.

Gotta love keyword targeted ads, context is HIGHLY over-rated.

This is why most companies don't run google ads on their sites - it spends more time serving your compeitors ads than anything else.

It can also lead to some embarrassment too. Back during the last miner accident (the one in Wyoming, not the current one), I was reading an online article from the Charleston Daily Mail regarding the tragic deaths of the miners, the families' reaction, and the funeral plans.

At the bottom of the page, there was a Google ad reading "Miners Needed - earn up to $7500 per month!"

I was reading about a one-engine plane crash and the ad on the page was for a new Cessna or something. That ad was actually quite practical once you think about it, but since the pilot died in the crash it was rather out of place.

"congressmen should have the logos of their corporate sponsors sewn onto their suits"

They'd need to put on some weight to have enough fabric for that.

  • Ryan (unregistered)

A lot of sponsors are shown depending on the content of the page. So, because the page mentions Colgate/phones/etc, it shows ads relating to that.
