    Hi. Extremely-late third post?

(I came across this page via the random article button. I don't even read VSM, though hey, free extra tdwtf! I didn't even see any evidence that there was a secret page hidden on that article, though. But then, I've never been that great at puzzles like that.)

Quite easy: I tried to find the first article on the site with a little bit of url manipulation (http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/2000/5/default.aspx) and it just gave me this link...

A bit late I guess, but I just got here w/ Random Article :-)

Was trying to find the first article also, set the year to 1998 and started paging through...

The WTF is that you can just search, no need for those hard/long methods!

I also found this page via the random article button, but I took up the challenge and worked it out; there certainly is a secret link in the article.

Hint: It's somewhere in the example subject given in the article ;)

I didn’t read the original article, but I found the secret link on the repost http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/Tale-of-the-Cryptic-Encoding.aspx.

I guess that the compressed data was intentionally slightly damaged so less people would figure it out ;-)

Piece of cake: remove the extra spaces in the base64 string, then:

    echo "H4sIAJ4qnU0AA4vML1VIyy/NS1EoyUhVCE5NLkotUQgN8lFUyCgpKbDS10/KLNHLqdRPyw3LcXLjAgDGBcb9LwAA" | base64 -d - | gzip -cd

    O boy am I late

  • DQ (unregistered) in reply to Crikey

Not as late as me :)

  • borism (unregistered)

    later still ;)

random article... aren't the odds small enough to warrant a dedicated price? after all, finding this page more than a decade after publication.. i must be incredibly lucky or a very big fan

    I got here from https://thedailywtf.com/articles/My-Dearest-Amy
