The frist 14 people to Lenovo's web site got their Lenovo T470s laptop today.

Oh, spotify shows me Hitler's last speech too, and way too often. Any speculations why?

  • MaxiTB (unregistered) in reply to not the frist

My first guess is a sponsored link. My second guess is that they put the whole speech into search words or nonsense like that.

People who don't want to watch that speech are obviously Unt$rm$nsch who need to be ext$rmin$ted. Joke.

Two explanations for the Lenovo one:

    1. As hinted above, fourteen people managed to snag however many they wanted to buy, and there are now none left.

    2. The panel at the bottom is talking about the proposed alternative item.

It's a WTF because of the ambiguity rather than anything else.

    1. It's a random hardcoded message to pressure you into buying something.

Spotify is secretly run by neo-Nazis, obviously. I mean, they let some guy say something on a podcast that offended somebody else, what other explanation could there be?

The title and other details do contain a lot of letters in different combinations. It contains a word starting with "Let" and it contains "it" twice. But it doesn't contain a single "b", so I don't know...

I don't know, but Spotify gave me "A Complete History of the Soviet Union, Through the Eyes of a Humble Worker" and it was not what I expected. (And I kinda love it.)

And now I have the music stuck in my head again, just from reading the title.

  • (nodebb) in reply to pudin9

That works, too. But it's also a WTF.

The last one is suggesting a replacement for the discontinued item. I think 14 of the new item sold that day. A well-designed screen would not be subject to misinterpretation, but I can't think of such a design...

    Hi!

I'm the one who posted the Spotify screenshot in question.

Because it seems to me that you have troubles understanding the nuances of Spotify's current wave of controversy, I'd like to clarify a few things:

People are not claiming that Spotify is a bunch of Neonazis because "they let some guy say something on a podcast that offended somebody else".

People are claiming that Spotify is acting irresponsibly because they are the exclusive publisher of a podcast which has repeatedly spread dangerous misinformation about a pandemic which has so far killed several millions of people. Said podcast has also repeatedly featured guests who are strongly aligned with the US neo-fascist movement, and the host of said podcast has a long history of using racist slurs, which is something that even he himself has explicitly apologized for at this point.

I could very easily have added a joke about the fact that Spotify will happily give a platform to neofascists with my submission, but I chose not to, because I am frankly very tired of arguments about how standing up to people who espouse fascist ideology is actually exactly as bad as fascism is itself. I submitted this screenshot because I thought it was kind of funny and people on here might enjoy this kind of weird algorithmic failure. But of course somebody had to make it political.

My conclusion to this is that even a site like The Daily WTF, which is aimed at people who are smart, educated, and willing to critically examine their own preconceptions, will still attract people who are either incapable or unwilling to actually think about other peoples' opinions, and default to strawman arguments.
