Candy Crush Saga uses a timer to determine how long until your next life. Basically it stores the start time and uses the difference between your clock and that stored start time to determine how much time has elapsed. There's no sanity check to see that the clock hasn't gone backward, so if you just change the device's date backward a few years you'll get an extraordinarily long time until your next life.
Admin
TRWTF is playing Candy Crush.

The IEEE submission is no big deal. There are engineers involved there.
I assume they display strings as something like:
getCharForHex(0x46) + getCharForHex(0x4F) + getCharForHex(0x4F)
with getCharForHex(int code) doing a database look-up for the right letter for the code. And getCharForHex() returns
null
because someone dropped the table with the english alphabet.Admin
Not sure if satire.

I am not ashamed to admit I tried it to understand WTF the fuss was all about. Plus my folks play it and they were shocked when I told them how the game biases itself.
Admin
I haven't been here two months. But that's my point, it's sufficiently good that it's virtually indistinguishable from what it's satirising.

...or it takes a Google reverse image search

That graph looks even more bizarre with color: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kx4xf52v4nhwz0y/graph.png

(TRWTF is that Leo didn't know how to take an actual screenshot)

Dickcourse is better than ITIL.
Admin
Admin
Umm, your graph lines have given up and all fallen down.
Admin
How is the "area of refuge assistance" anything to do with technology?
Admin
Error'd isn't strictly IT related, just photos of fail?
Admin
ITIL is so complex that several Microsoft engineers committed mass exodus when they were asked to work on it to "design" the Service Manager application.
Admin
Admin
Well, you got me there.
Admin
There's another site for that. It's called failblog.
This site's logo says "curious perversions in information technology".
Admin
yes, yes, I know. However, the Error'd category is described as "Error'd features fun error messages and other visual oddities from the world of IT." and oftentimes IT and Facilities seem to be a little too synonymous.
I may be a pedantic-dickweed-in-training but its non-IT characteristics made the hilarity no less enduring for me personally. As in: I didn't care it didn't fit someone else's idea of IT or not.
Admin
There's our difference. You're only in training. I have a masters degree in being a pedantic dickweed. ;-)
Admin
Admin
Pedant's corner - they have two, just none of the pedantry ones:
[image]But then again, there's only so many badges anyone can have when they're only one hour old..
Admin
Uh yeah the default discourse badges don't count!

Admin
I was referring to life, not this site. Sorry if I whooshed there.
Admin
Oh how nice, someone put chairs in the refuge area for the elderly and injured. Hopefully there's also room for anyone in a wheelchair.
Admin
Exactly what I was thinking.
Admin
Come back and talk after you are done building workflow steps in ITIL. You will soon think DickCourse is much easier to play with.
Admin
I might give up and fall down too if someone told me to order by 4 ascending and 2 descending.
Admin
The graph lines look like a representation of a bunch of spaghetti in mid-fall towards the floor. Was that graph monitoring the Barilla website?

The quora one is the output of the UNIX 'time' command, used to see how long it takes a command to run:
crispy@octangular:~$ time du -hs . 22G .
real 0m0.355s user 0m0.023s sys 0m0.068s crispy@octangular:~$
Looks as if there's some shell scripting involved in the rendering of quora's pages and someone left in some profiling code.

No disk drives, no RAM chips, no CDs, no floppies, no IBM cards, no printed OCRable documents. The sign is right, no storage. Maybe the chairs are left over from former IT personnel?
Admin
The table of contents is for IEEE's security not privacy. Security by obscurity.
Admin
The stackOverflow query is easily fixed by ordering first by the X-Axis like so:
ORDER BY 1 asc, 4 asc,2 desc
Admin
Beat me to it by a long shot!
Admin
That is only half the problem, though. To me, it makes no sense to plot a "set" of values on either axis. The fact that userid is numeric is just a coincidence. There's no numerical comparison between user 4 and user 600, so plotting them sequentially on a line makes no sense...
Admin
Agreed, it's like plotting usernames. No, actually it's exactly like plotting usernames.... No wonder the chart is confused by default!
Admin
And as a result no-one pays it any attention. Who takes signs written in Comic Sans seriously? Who lets anything written in Comic Sans impinge on their sensorium?
Admin
That's an Area of Refuse. It's not storage, because anything put there may be thrown out periodically.

Leo can have more lives right now. All he has to do is click on "More Lives Now", pay $5,254,560.00, and he'll have a life.
Or maybe he just needs to get a real life.

Re: Facebook.
Reading it in 2022 i thought "sooo... what's so strange about it?" and then it hit me.
