    An interesting yarn to be sure. You really had me in suspense the whole way through. And the twist ending, while completely unrealistic, actually works. In fact, it probably works because it is unrealistic.

    It's like a horror movie where the protagonist keeps fleeing from the monster the whole way through only for it to turn out to have all been a misunderstanding at the end. Only ten times as frighting throughout because the monster in this case is the sort that works at HR.

    You really had my hair standing on end all the way through. Like, we all know HR are not people. They might look like people, to the untrained. And they might act like people when it suits them. But deep down they are all to the last sociopaths of the sort that would not be out of place in the halls of the STAZI, GESTAPO or any other evil acronym agency. And the nicer they are to you the deeper down in trouble you are in.

    So all the way to the end I was just waiting for the shoe to drop. And than it just does not. It's been a while since I read such a good twist. If only real life could work like that.

    The dead giveaway that this is fiction (of the "cozy fantasy" subgenre) is that HR actually cares - and cares about/for a lowly wage slave.

    STAZI

    * eye twitch *

    That's "Stasi", which is not an acronym, but an abbreviation for "Staatssicherheit" ("State Security") which - in this instance - is itself an abbreviation for "Ministerium für Staatssicherheit" ("Ministry for State Security"). Bitte Schön.

    To be honest, I think the underlying story is real, but it was heavily embellished.

    I think the political satire Utopia has captured the hell that is HR perfectly, assuming Markdown works here:

    Utopia But It's Only Scenes Approved By HR The Best Of The Worst Of HR

    You know, there is a LaTeX package called "coffee4" to add different kinds of coffee stains to your business reports and leadership memos... danke schön.

    As is Gestapo. Geheime Staatspolizei == secret state police

    Nice story Ellis.

    You're back to posting crap like this again?

    You should ask for a refund.

    To be fair it was entertaining. So why not? Honestly, if we can get a day each week that are just minimum effort compilations of submitted errors of the internet why not also have a day for completely fictional but entertaining stories?
