    Re the naming of files: Eventually, someone will mess up the cdate, mdate or atime. If you name the files someprefix-YYYYMMDD, you get the date - as a sortable number.

    Of course, if you insist on the US/weird format of MMDDYYYY, you wont get this... (I reckon that is why ISO8601 and others went for YYYYMMDD).
