So many great comics in the 2.4 comments, so hard to choose...
YAYitsAndrew was the clear winner with #204213. "I WILL BRING YOU A SUITABLE TIE!"may have been the best punchline ever.
The Best Reuse of the Contractor Desk Award goes to bstorer for #204219.
acrchivator gets the Mandatory Yakov Smirnoff Joke Trophy for #204233.
Matt.C gets the Must Have Been a Seriously Slow Day At Work, But That's OK Because We All Enjoyed Your Comics Prize for #204239, #204249, #204268,#204506, and #204512.
I was surprised to see that no one claimed the Best Heckler award, so here's some fodder for 2.5: not only did I write the dialog for today's comic, but I actually lettered it and added the speech bubbles, too.
And remember, I'll mail a WTF Sticker and an official award certificate (which may or may not actually be a post-it note that says "congrats!") to the winners. Assuming, of course, you post with your TDWTF account and have access to the email account associated with it.
Now go forth and make comic.
YAYitsAndrew, bstorer, acrchivator, and Matt.C: please contact me with your mailing address if you'd like a WTF sticker.

uh what? i'm really confused here, i realise it's not very funny but some of them have made me smile a bit. i simply don't get this at all. the "punchline" is a non-sequitur. is it saying the system is a disaster?? it doesn't make any sense at all
Admin
I like the other writer better.

I took it to mean that gilroy is meant to come up with a disaster recovery plan for the Kraken. So the joke is trying to come up with a sane and executable plan for all the possible failures that could occur within that monstrous behemoth.

You are not funny, stop trying.

drx explained the intent pretty well ....
And further more, doing so while there are no production installations...

Oh look, I can edit posts and write text in them! That should save people the trouble of screencapping notepad again!
Addendum (2008-07-08 09:43): Funny how one can only think of something witty to say a second after the edit time expires.

But the problem is: That's not funny! It's just a wtf. Pretty much 0 humour value in it. I was expecting improvement after the giddy heights (relatively) that 2.4 achieved, not regression.

Ha!

That's too bad. There's going to be plenty of regression.
Regression testing, that is!

Heh, it wouldn't be the most pleasant of job interviews, would it?
stretch "Haaaaghh... it's hot in here. You mind if I... what's your name again? Gilroy, is it? You mind if I take off all my clothes, Gilroy?"

Yeah, I'm not getting how working on a disaster recovery plan is supposed to be a joke.

Why wasn't this the real one? The "real" one looks like someone took this comic and changed the words to try and be funny...

Admin
Yeah, jokes are always funnier when they require a lengthy explanation

For some reason that last line made me laugh until the tears came. Ah dear.

"And also" [sic], how can they not know if there are any production installations? It's their proprietary hardware-- they will, pretty much by definition, know about any and all installations.
Whoever writes this strip seems to have a PHB-level grasp of technical terminology.
Admin
Thanks! I just hacked out the dialog to try and fit the word balloons-- only afterwards did I notice that the character gestures actually matched up. Hooray for surprise serendipity.
