There's no as in asterisk when typed, but the computer is using speech recognition you tool. It sounds the same. Way to miss the whole joke.

The joke would fail in Austraila and probably England if we weren't familiar with the way yanks pronounce "ass". Over here, the "as" in "asinine" and "asterisk" sounds very different to how we say "ass" or "arse".
Despite the difference it's still close enough to be written off as a joke about speech recognition software...

First, he admits the idea of the 'ass' being changed to be taken from the clbuttic story. Second, they take the joke 1-2 steps further which was the part that was funny. You can't make jokes out of nothing, you need to base them on something. This time it was on another funny story.

this reminds me of one of my old PCs: it developed a fault in the Windows function that handles improper shutdowns! so every time any program crashed, it would go into an endless loop, trying to shutdown the shutdown program!
