Who decides if it's the "Right Tray"? If the printer is spun 180 degrees on either of two of its major axii, the right tray would be on the left. If you select "No" for right tray, does that make it "Wrong"? Sometimes thinking too much like a computer makes me cross-eyed. Captcha: ewww (How appropriate!)

Well, on most printers I've seen, you can distinguish between front and back. "Right" would be on the right side when I'm facing the front of the printer, since usually it's very hard to access the trays if you've rotated it 180 degrees.

It's sort of like if I'm standing opposite someone, his right hand doesn't suddenly become his left hand if he spins around.

Heh, I thought that also but just figured I'd seen it on a different site.

I like the printer one though :)

Yeah, so true. As has been pointed out by so many others. Not even I am immune.

I know, this is one of my personal peeves. People are writing more and more how they speak, and they don't speak properly.
The one that irritates me most these days is, "The thing is is...". Why does "is" have to be doubled? Or tripled?

It's the future of ultrasmall portable communications hardware. The Apple version will be called the iMolecule. Every teenager will be desperate to have one.

or put all the lables in any visual GUI editor, made them invisible and only making visible one required of each group.

It is clear that they failed to calculate positions, otherwise they'd just made an artificial mouse lcicks onto them :-)

    HA HA!

    made my evening.

  • blah blah blah (unregistered) in reply to Sgt. Preston

Because the speaker is thinking of "the thing is" as an idiomatic noun phrase. It's like saying "the situation is". Now replace "the situation" with the idiom and you get a doubled word. It may be stupid but it is perfectly grammatical. And the idiom does carry along it's own definition which could give a very slight difference in meaning.

You can't stop language change. I predict that 50 years from now 'of' will officially be a variant spelling of 'have'.

    Was this a programming blog?

The real WTF is writing "of" instead of "have".

I share that peeve along with the 'spoken' abuses: Supposively and Irregardless

It's an atrocimacy, I tells ya.

I think the Apple one is probably the result of outsourcing to china, as it seems like a literal translation from chinese to english, or engrish. Captcha: doom

Huh. Saw that first box today, actually. Sharp MX-3501 printer or similar, IIRC.

The picture of the printer changes to match the settings you choose, so you can see if your actual unit matches the settings... ;)
