Corporate transparency in action: the bus company admits its drivers may be corrupt.

You can copy text from message boxes - just press Ctrl-C...

  • HughG (unregistered)

Re the Postgress password: actually, you can copy/paste standard Win32 MessageBox dialogs, although that's far from obvious. Hit Ctrl-C and the dialog should blink/flash; paste into your favourite text editor (or Notepad) and you should get an ASCII-art representation of the dialog :-D

Well, look at the bright side: the bag of $127,992,000.00 used to be $159,990,000.00 before. A discount of $31,998,000 is not to be sniffed at.

  • (cs)

On the upside if they just sell one bag at those prices I am sure they will meet their fiscal goals for the quarter.

'Tar baby' anti-pattern you say? What's with all the Uncle Remus references around here lately.

OK, I guess I'll just take my place in the back of the bus now.

What Joel Hinz (and presumably the PostgreSQL developer) doesn't know, it that you can copy and paste from a Windows message box.

You did beat me on that! :D

That made me chuckle, while everything else is mildly funny, but nothing we haven't seen in a similar way before.

The expression tar baby is also used occasionally as a derogatory term for black people (in the U.S. it refers to African-Americans; in New Zealand it refers to Maoris), or among blacks as a term for a particularly dark-skinned person. As a result, some people suggest avoiding the use of the term in any context.

In the password, what is that character between E & L that looks like a capital S with an oval spliced in the middle (or perhaps a two-armed spiral galaxy)?

Actually the worrying thing about the NOD32 one is the suggestion that it hasn't been updated in over 350 years...

And 1649 isn't even the NTFS epoch...

The bus display is saying there are no windows and 32 drivers in the system are corrupt... or not. Makes sense to me.

I urgently desire a flamewar debate over whether "tar baby" is a racist phrase. In the US, at least, I believe it originates from African and African-American folk tales, was transcribed/popularized by (sympathetic, yet racist) whites, and refers to a trap laid by a trickster character to ensnare his enemy. Later (unsympathetic, and stupid) racists decided that since tar was black, "tar baby" would be a good racist epithet. Discuss which is the relevant factor.

Also - what do they think they're selling, Birkin bags?

The prices of the purses look like Zimbabwe currency, at least well before they abandoned it. At the end, there are claims the non-official inflation rate, i.e. what people were actually experiencing, exceeded 10¹⁰⁰%. You know inflation is high when a standard scientific calculator can't represent it!

I think this phenomenon has been discussed before. Some people use automated scripts to change prices based on sales, availability, and competition. These scripts are buggy and sometimes put themselves in a feedback loop.

null minus seven is null. It's not a math captcha, it's a database developer captcha which is also a gotcha.

Having used javascript before, I can pretty much garentee the answer is -7, a quick check to the Chrome console verifies this. Also NaN would have been another attempt of mine.

I'm sympathetic to the plight of black people. I really think they do the best they can with their inferior intellect.

See, it's not hard to be sympathetic and racist at the same time. And for the stupid people out there, no, I don't think black people have an inferior intellect, I was illustrating a point.

ok, but the real trick is that it doesn't EQUAL null, it just IS null, which does not equal itself. So that is a pretty damn secure captcha

No, the larger passport costs more than that. The prices shown here seem to be for adult or child with the wrong caption.. Here's the complete list which with a choice of 12 different prices is surely worthy of a wtf: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/howlongittakesandurgentappplications/DG_174109
