You bring the code... I'll bring the Jack'n'Coke. Good times to be had by all.

  • TheLQ (unregistered)

The one time there's something code related near me, I don't have $200.

  • Paul (unregistered)

The convention center sounds overpriced, the conventions I go to cost between $35 to $60.

Will a video or slides of your talk be available on-line?

I'd say it's pretty obvious TRWTF is the venue cost. It's not like you're trying to rent the freaking San Diego Convention Center or something.

Totally unrelated to anything, I just came across a StackOverflow node relating to checkboxes in pdfs (which have, by the way, standard (though modifiable) values of "Yes" and "Off", which is a pretty big WTF by itself), and someone responded asking, what about FileNotFound? Your memes are spreading!

Keep in mind that it's a conference (you get fed, snacks, etc)... not a convention (you might get a swag bag).

In speaking to both the organizers of CodeMash (held at Kalahari Resort) and CodePaLOUsa (at the 5-star Seelbach hotel), I was astonished to see what things costs. It's crazy.

Those little cans of pop are like $1.50/ea. Putting out coffee is like $5/person. Meals... whooo booy. And the worst part is, you have to (personally) guarntee a certain number of rooms will be sold.

It's one thing to put a lot of time into your hobby (I can speak on that)... but to take on all that risk ($20K-50K)... now that's dedication.

  • Bilski (unregistered)

Woohoo, something neat coming to Louisville! And yes, the Seelbach is horribly overpriced.

Sounds interesting, let us know how it goes.

It's worth it just for the Daily WTF coffee mug. I still treasure mine and drink from it with pride. I use it to tell the world, "don't bring your brand of crazy over here else I will mock you behind your back to the whole world."

Hey! That's in my home town. I knew it was... it seems every "cool" or "hip" thing that happens here has LOU emphasized somewhere in the name. And Louisville is trying to become a technology and knowledge industry town. (Which really does work well with the other industries we have here.)

Can't say anything about the venue price... this town has been run by a lot of tax happy politicians for a long time.

I had to look up Louisville, KY

There are a lot of KY jokes on the Internet. Is it true that people marry their sisters in KY?

I don't really see the WTF here but it's still funnier than Error'd.

    BAZZZZZING!

  • John (unregistered)

I'll be in Louisville (probably at the same overpriced venue) earlier that week at the KY K-12 technology conference. I wish the times overlapped :( I'd love to meet some of you guys!

  • Andee (unregistered)

I have one of those mugs from the lot sent out way back in 2008. I cannot even begin to explain how awesome they are.

Ah, so that's what's behind the weird capitalisation. I was trying to interpret it as Pa.L.O.USA and not getting very far.

TRWTF is that someone is going to discuss what is 'new and cool' in Visual Basic.

Baseball bats, race horses, and bad delivery pizza?

J/K, actually, I've found Louisville to be quite a pleasant place.

Alex sent me 2 of those a while back after I mailed him a steak dinner. I also cherish said mugs. I would also love to attend but unfortunatly I'm already going to be working PAX East that month.

Lot of visual basic work still going on in Fortune 500 companies in America.

no suprise there. in 2009 I used to work a global top 3 pension fund and the Asset Allocation application was written in VB with a 13 year old codebase

True, we have those. I was thinking more of the massive health industry we have here. (Humana and Kindred being two of the three in the Forbes 500. UofL being a top medical and research school - think heart and hand transplant.)

It has been a manufacturing center for Ford and others for a long time. Though, apparently, the city has lost 7500 manufacturing jobs in the past X years.

This conference sounds pretty cool. I've been pretty busy architecting a new application though so I probably won't be able to attend this time.

However, I was thinking that I should probably speak at one of these conferences some time. Several times a quarter, I give a presentation to the junior developers at my company about things like proper coding practices and more advanced topics such as MVC and WCF. Basically they walk away from my presentation with a deep understanding of the topic, plus my sample code, which they can then use in their projects.

We will have sessions revolving around Microsoft, Java, Ruby, PHP, and Clojure
Thrilled to hear that Clojure made it onto that list!

What programming language exactly is that "Microsoft"?

  • Goldie (unregistered)

    Booked!

And with the TDWTF discount, it's only $175, not the $200 mentioned here!

  • The Distant Future (unregistered)

Is it too late to get the discount?
