Another time it was some brand of jelly that I can't recall. All flavors. So he set up the display with a sign which I assume was supposed to say, "Assorted Jelly, $2.35". However, he abbreviated it: "Ass. Jelly, $2.35".
I have often seen "Cadbury's Ass. Nutties" for sale and even "Ass. Pies".

One of my most favourite games is Defcon -- costing €14.50 / US-$19.50 for download or 3€/4$ more as boxed copy...

PS: Does anybody besides me think that the current captcha system has some unneccessary attack vector by changing the background colors but not the captcha-word every time I hit "Preview"?

As far as the "official-looking-signage" is concerned, all Wal-Marts have blank signage onto which they can mass-print any items in inventory or make custom signage, all right on site.

They have printers at walmart? I'm impressed!

I've used the phrase 'bog off' for years, usually instead of 'f--- off'. Ah, the nuances of being British. Long live the Queen and all that.

Personally, I like living in a country where they DON'T stop people from "jaywalking". I can cross the street wherever the I damn well want to. Or walk down the middle of it. (Well, unless it's a motorway)

Walking in the middle of the motorway is EXACTLY the kind of stuff that goes on in China! As well as driving the wrong way down the motorway beeping, any kind of road in fact!! Even if your riding 5 up on a 50cc motorcycle you'd still have a go at crossing the motorway to reach the wrong traffic side and go that way!! No worries if the police are there!

There was.... but only for the MAC

Firstly, 'Mac' is not an acronym. It is short for 'Macintosh' and as such does not need to be written in capitals.

Secondly, you are correct Word 98 was "only for the MAC [sic]". It was the Mac version of Word 97. Mac versions of Microsoft Office are always a year after the corresponding PC version (so PC Office 97 = Mac Office 98, 2000 = 2001, 2003 = 2004, 2007 = 2008). Office XP (2002) for PC had no directly equivalent Mac version, although Office:Mac v.X was released about the same time.

In Wal-Mart parlance, "Deleted" means that an item has been removed from the modular and will not be sold anymore. A deleted item cannot be replenished by the POS.
I think POS means "Point Of Sale" for everything except Wal-Mart. In that case, POS gets its other meaning. ;)

BTW, Word '98? Yipes, that one might be of some use back at my mom's home ... her old Performa still runs Office '98! (And System 7.5, can't remember if this was before they changed the name to MacOS)

The paper is curved but the text is flat. Look at the paper it's on. There's a huge bend in the paper. The text would be distorted. It's not. It looks to me like text laid over the graphic.

"Deleted" refers to the fact that it's been removed from their catalogue and they aren't going to be getting any more in, ever.

  • Brendan O. (unregistered) in reply to BlueKnot

Meh, I'm (unfortunately) a hourly manager at a Wal-Mart. "Deleted" is one of the internal words to describe an item that is no longer on the shelf layout (the others "Non Tradeable" or "Inactive" aren't as easy on customers minds either). Department managers can either "flex" it into an unused space on the shelf or throw it somewhere like this and slap a big gaudy sign on it. The signage is created by a program on the terminals we use (quick way of printing sans-serif on a legal sized sheet). And trust me, as anal as wal-mart is with tracking sales, nothing is just lumped together (heck, there is procedure for making neat little custom made gift baskets for mothers/fathers day, etc.)
