I bet it could divide pretty well.

  • (cs)

Wow, just wow, I seriously hope someone does implement this somehow

    Damnit! They stole my UI!

I'm trying to replace my equals button with this image as we speak :D
  • (cs)

Gives a new meaning to the phrase "counting with your fingers".

  • (cs)

Well the description does say it has a metal case with a folding plastic cover. Perhaps the plastic cover is folded over the rest of the UI?

Looking at the Non-WTF Jobs listing, I bet this tool is a necessity for that Cutting Edge UI position that was just recently posted.

I think it should be the divide button :)

I like how we got an article about string splitting and then an article about scissors.

If the authors of the string-splitting functions had printed the original strings out, sliced them up with these scissors, taken a picture of the split-up papers (on a wooden table, of course), then used OCR to recover the text, it may have been a little less WTF-ey than their own particular reinventions of the wheel.

  • burntfuse (unregistered)

Heh, actually my OMGWTF entry doesn't have any buttons on the GUI. It still can't even come close to this, though!

    right....

divide = paper shredder multiply = copier add = paycheck subtract = taxes equal = sugar packet clear = whiteout store = pencil store clear = eraser ... and on and on and on

    hell, the possibilities are endless.

It is listed under arts & crafts. The title is probably wrong not the image. I bet if you ordered the item you would get the scissors.

It's unlikely - the entry page has been down since at least last night.

If there are any problems with the submission process, I'm sure it'll be fixed soon since there are still almost 10 days left to enter.

On a related note, I have almost finished adjusting my entry to make reference to this article. Though I couldn't turn it into a button (due to my very limited C++ knowledge (which was none before the contest)) I found a place for it that happened to also add at least 3 WTFs to my code.

After wasting FAR more time on this than it's worth (unless, of course I worked for CompUSA), the Sparco Economy Student scissors are Sparco part number 02196 (or SPR02196, not sure). The Calculator is Sparco part number CSS02196.

So, I believe that CompUSA is only storing the numeric portion of the manufacturers part number, or is perhaps just relying on a match to the numeric portion and ignoring the text portion.

Aww man, I added a review but it says it could take up to 72 hours for it to be posted... !=/

I wonder if they check the reviews... here are the highlights of my review (if i can remember them)... cutting edge design. slices through the competition. shreds computations...(the ones on paper that is) I didn't put anything with the word divide though...that would have been a good one, shoulda read the comments first. Oh and the LH/RH cross compatibility.

  • (cs) in reply to Will Perdikakis

I would have guessed The Simpsons. Never watched Seinfeld.

A UI suggestion: a bolt of fabric.

    • Subtract: Scissors on fabric

    • Divide: Fold fabric over, apply scissors.

    • Add: Needle + thread + fabric.

    • Multiply: Like add, but with a serger (4 spools of thread at a time, used for sewing hems).

    • Equals: A beautiful quilt. Pattern should depend on actions taken to "sew" it.

    • Bonus key: Square Root. Fold fabric corners to middle, flip, corners to middle again, and voila -- a cootie catcher!

  • theteapot (unregistered)

Hmmm. Maybe someone's going to have a UI of that picture, and the program will randomly guess what calculation the user really wants to do. Of course, the picture should be drawn by calculating every pixel, by doubling the colour value, then halving it. Everyone knows that this produces 'lifelike' colour.</sarcasm>

...and the Suggested Add-Ons are...MORE CALCULATORS! (These are actual calculators.)

  • (cs)

I always find it amusing yet depressing that URLs such as the one in this example can be significantly shortened at little or no cost. In this example, a few tiny details on the page do disappear if you open the URL in its most basic form:

    http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=51422384

Much easier to copy/paste anywhere in this form though!

As far as paper/scissors/stone went, my sister and I added a few more -- bomb (fist held vertically with thumb raised as a fuse), bomb defuser (fingers arranged in a cylinder), water (imagine your hand as a cup), brick, and fire (easy). We also had, for some strange reason, a Pacman that was accompanied by Irish music. I think that was something to do with our grandmother hating what she called "diddly diddly" music that would be played in my dad's car sometimes. So "diddly diddly" Pacman would come into it too.
