I thought grown men behaving like children and not being held responsible for their behavior was always a WTF.

    That's the default setting.

Google "The great office war." I think that is the aftermath of what Lyle and his co-workers are literally "shooting" for.

I thought the Wikipedia article on the FISH! Philosophy was pretty much of a WTF in itself... My mouth literally fell open from reading that.

The FISH thing can be good.

The FISH thing implemented by a manager who thinks that sending a memo making fun mandatory is good management, well, not so much.

Of course, like all good ideas it started out organically, just a bunch of people in the workplace enjoying their job because their boss doesn't have mandatory fun days - then the terrorists (er, I mean management consultants) got hold of it and simply had to work out "rules" that will ensure profit via "fun".

Have you seen the video on Youtube on this thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVKnF26qFFM

    Hmmmm.

Don't know about you guys but I'm stealing this for my Paranoia campaign!

Nerf guns? I would counter that with the almighty USB MISSILE LAUNCHER! Actually, I'd put some four of 'em just to do their job as a Nerf deterrent ;)

The real WTF is that so far both of Lyle's team building plans have involved him shooting his staff.
Does this bring the management training from Good Omens to anyone else's mind?

I have that nerf gun, it's the only gun I've seen that can fling nerf balls so fast they actually sting a bit.

FISH started out organically? Having slept through all of my biology classes, I never would have guessed...

Which is ironic in that it is the exact opposite of what would solve the problem. Not to worry though, if he continues like this, it won't be long.

  • someone (unregistered)

He is shooting his staff with a nerf gun all day?

People have sued over repeated paper cuts... You'd think someone would sue for this.

I think many of these 'team building' ideas are a variant on the cargo cult. During WWII inhabitants of some Pacific islands were fascinated by the Allied soldiers, with their Jeeps, airplanes, and money. After the war and the soldiers departed, they built replica airports, planes etc. to re-attract visitors and business.

Seminar 'psychologists' see workplaces that are (for a variety of subtle reasons) very productive, and they pick on some stupid trivial characteristic and try to replicate that, thinking that will somehow transform the workplace. Duh, doesn't work because they simply did not understand what was going on. (School uniforms are another area where this mindless fix has failed miserably)

This should be a featured post. Kudos for saying how it really is. I wholeheartedly agree.

Apple has released another beta of iPhone OS 3.0. While it appears to be relatively stable, Apple will have its work cut out to clear up the remaining issues in order to have it ready to launch with new hardware this summer. With it you can watch live ESPN broadcasting easily. You can use a DVD to iPhone converter for Macto enjoy HD DVD on iPhone OS 3.0. One of the best features of iPhone OS 3.0 is the EA game inside it. It can invoke the ringtone of the iphone made by iPhone Ringtone Maker for Mac iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3 has a number of issues to patch up before the OS is ready for public consumption. Still, developers familiar with the betas concurred that 3.0 is far better than 2.0 so far, which wasn't particularly stable at launch and required a major point update to 2.1 before many users felt comfortable. Judging from the few API changes and the current stability, Apple should be on track to have the new OS ready in time for this summer's expected iPhone hardware update. For some people it will not be late to enjoy HD video on iPhone. Video, favorite Video, iPhone Video Converter for Mac, iPhone OS 3.0. All is OK. Let’s look forward to its coming in this summar.
