I think you're thinking of Americans there. You know, more bombs than everyone else, more money, more wasteland, more people, more idiots, etc.

Hmm... Australia seems to still have many more internet trolls.

    My spoon is too big.

    I'm a banana.

Sadly the timezone app looks suspiciously like something that the (Western Australian) Education Department foists on us via their Remote Deployment Program of the Month.

I have fond memories (fond because I didn't have to do anything to fix it) of ringing the department helpdesk to try and track down a problem with one of our admin staff's emails, only to be told that it wasn't accepting her password because of issues with the time zone.

That in itself could be WTF-worthy in one of two ways. a) that they think it's a legitimate excuse; or b) that the state of the software that regularly gets puts out for the 50k or so teachers to use is such that it might actually -be- a legitimate excuse.

While as you say that reported size is probably an uninstaller bug, it's fairly common under Windows to see abnormal file/package sizes. This is due to the fact that, as someone once said, Windows is not an operating system but a marketing platform. Its purpose is to create artificial scarcity of resources to fill them with (unneeded elsewhere) software or hardware. This brings the tendency to write commercial software as quickly as possible, hence the success of Visual Basic first, then Java and now .NET. Under Windows there are excellent development systems capable of generating fast and small code (Delphi, C++ Builder, heck, even the C++ Visual Studio), but companies will always choose what will help them to put the product on the market first, which doesn't mix well with code efficiency.

As another someone said years ago, there are two kinds of Information Technology: the one that works and the one that sells.

I am the spoon. FEAR ME!

I am also a spoon, but you'd be suprised how few people have apparently realised that - according to Google anyway. Actually right now it's more accurate to say that I'm an entire cutlery drawer.

Funny stuff though guys, glad I found this page.

Unless the image is really small, or animated, then it's almost always better to use PNG instead of GIF. PNG uses a compression algorithm that usually beats GIF by a not inconsiderable margin.

Can we start a new rule that all screenshots need to be in PNG? I mean, even Paint can save in PNG so you have no excuse ...

JPG is more standard than PNG so what is the benefit of moving to PNG?

JPG is lossy PNG, bmp, and gif are not lossy bmp is huge though, so screw that gif gets eaten by the gif-monster in MS Paint, so it becomes lossy Therefore, png is the most-common never-lossy compressed format.

It's a Windows bug (shock) that occurs for multiple apps. My Windows Backup Utility was showing the exact same size.

And we gave DLS the flick anyway ... maybe it was all those 4 gig updates we had to install? :p
