re: the 2500 char entry limit: It's likely an off-by-one error. Try shortening the text to 2499 chars and it may go away. Then again, it could just be a standard, run-of-the-mill WTF-error in which case... shrug well, you could always try typing in swahili or waving a dead chicken or something.

The Condos are "Name your price" ala The Price Is Right. "Tell them what they have won, Bob!"

"SOME NEW DEBT!" Wait, wasn't it Johnny that told us what they've won? It's been so long.

Just hope the guy yodeling doesn't fall off the mountain. I'd prefer mostly chance: question mark plinko. That would kick butt.

There's no Portuguese on the billboard. French is a latin-based language, just like Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Some words do look the same.

I think they're confused by the accent grave. In French, it's used to distinguish homographs, whereas in Portuguese it's used to indicate crasis.

Did it indicate the current financial crasis? ;)

Not sure the political correct people will let you use the word 'black'.....

Although I remember the song "...And we'll all feel gay when, Johnny comes marching home!" - Sounds even more disturbing when sung by a large group of Primary School kids.....

For the longest time it was Rod Roddy. So it was usually, "Tell us what they'll win, Rod!" Until Mr. Roddy died...

However, "Tell them what they have won, Bob!" is pretty much a generic reference. I seem to recall that exact line repeated multiple times as ad-libbing during Frank Zappa's '84 tour.

Tell 'em what they win, Bob!

Well, Bill, for the ladies: A full week's supply of D'Artagnan's Onion rings, Ronco's new Bondage-In-A-Bottle! It won't crack, it won't slip, it won't peel, it won't budge, It won't bite, it won't fade... And of course a brand new, absolutely brand new, New, new, and of course, but also a new car!

I live in Canada, thus "African-American mark" makes no sense. Also, the implication is that "African-American mark" is a bad thing, which also implies that a mark European in origin is O.K, which is racist.

That smarter child (dumber programmer) thing is just an example of what we like to call a social engineering attack. Given the correct situation and some subtle stimulus, you can manipulate your victim into saying a bad word. Then you can arrest the parents, send them to Gitmo, and seize their house and bank accounts.
Nah, somewhere out there, there is a website using anagrams as captchas and everyone using SmarterChild is helping some attacker to build his lookup tables.

Or we're all helping him to complete a lot of question sections in his newspapers.

My mistake. You're right, it is french.

I didn't think it was french because, among all other latin languages it is the one that least resembles portuguese. I do speak portuguese, and because of that I can read some spanish pretty fine and I can even take a little italian, but I hardly have any grasp on french.

Oh well, what can I say? I did my best, but this time it was an Epic Fail :)

I hope you're not a support programmer. Given all the evidence (Canadian flag, Dollar price, French language), you managed to leap to the conclusion that it was confusingly Portuguese. So, given a Perl script to debug, do you wonder why your C compiler can't cope with it?

Tim needs to try entering one less character. They've probably just used <= where they should have used <.

As for the condo sign, that's how they say either "we have some for $109230, some for $129230, some for $169230, etc" or "we're sleazy and you should refrain from doing business with us" (to be read by idiots as "the question mark might be a zero"). I'm betting on the latter.

What I thought at first when I took the picture was that the guy who wrote the price on the condo sign wanted to write a 6. SHIFT-6 creates an interrogation mark on the French Canadian keyboard.

I had a Rent-A-Coder experience over the last several months, and I have to say that everything about their website indicates that it was developed by folks that couldn't have gotten a job any other way. The website is difficult to use, from end-to-end, and was probably at least as much responsible for the failed coding project as the incompetent coders that they foisted off on me.

Prehaps SmarterChild simply feels it is a terrible word due to the number of alternatives: (1) strange, curious, peculiar, unexpected (2) eccentric, unconventional (3) touched, obsessed, hipped (4) spurrious, counterfeit, questionable, suspicious (5) feint, giddy, queasy (6) droll, amusing, comical
