I'm stuck here in the Midwest USA, but that conference looks cool.

I'm in Tokyo. Maybe I'll have to learn about this and then come and hit you up for a whiskey or something.

I've always found it weird that Big Sight is "Sight" rather than "Site."

I unfortunately will still be in Gifu grueling in the code mines, so I can't come out and see you^H^H^H^H Get some free swag

  • 50% Opacity (unregistered)

I don't think I'll be able to make it to Big Sight, but I'd be up for a beer or eight in an izakaya around Shinjuku or so. You may pay in swag. :o)

The Midwest? God! The Midwest is so KICK-ASS! I wish I could get a job in the Midwest!

Might want to check that -

    日本語はわかりますか ^_^

I'll be moving to Japan (from Australia) in November - any chance of coming back then? :D (damn flights to the US are crazy expensive)

Hey I spotted two gaijin in that picture.

Bring a bunch of Budweiser and Michael Jackson stuff for bartering.*

*Disclaimer: My experience in Japan my be a little dated.

Be sure to try raw chicken while you're there!

(seriously, it's good stuff - just don't try it at home)

Alex, Why not you attend one conference in India?

Several developers over here would love to meet you in person. I can take you to world famous Biryani restaurant in Hyderabad.

Wow, would I ever like to meet you, but it's unimaginable that my employer would let me take the day off.

は is not completely wrong but が is standard in this situation.

As for why ビッグサイト is Big Sight instead of Big Site, I just figured it was Engrish, which is as common as the Japlish of many of us gaijin. The arrogance of neglecting to have English checked by a native speaker is the same as the arrogance of neglecting to have Japanese checked by a native speaker, the same as the arrogance of neglecting to have software checked by competent programmers, the same as the arrogance of neglecting to have protective systems for nuclear power plants checked by experts who know what to protect against, etc.

Muphry's law says I posted something in this screwup.

Alex I am holding a small software conference 60 meters below the surface of the Filchner-Ronne ice shelf. Would you consider being a celebrity speaker at my conference, but most importantly posting a front page story telling your readers that you're going in case they want to fly out to Antarctica?

Sake. I think more of them drink beer though.

While you're there, try to gauge if the Onion headline is true. The one that read "Earthquake knocks Japan back to the year 2027" (or something like that)

    Not 1896?

No wait, that wouldn't be Onion material. 1896 was real. Not that reality would matter to Tepco or to the government employees who approved Tepco's operations.

In Japan, business suit == pajamas.

Okinawa... good times. Can you overnight some yakisoba from the Quick Stop in Henoko to me? I'd be willing to pay triple.
