Take it from a guy who has had to do stuff like that... Broadcast gear runs NOTORIOUSLY HOT! .. and it WILL fail in a matter of minutes if over-heated... and unfortuantely most stations cant afford full system redudnancy and fans are not usually hot-swapable.

This reminds me of the time i had to keep one of my TV Stations on the air by hooking a 5hp Shop-Vac up to the hot-air-outlet chimney on my 1kw UHF Transmitter after the blower motor failed (110v 1.5hp) ... Dont ya know.. ya cant overnight parts from germany to alaska.... UGH!

I can't believe no one thinks of the EM interference an AC fan such as this causes and the effect is has on electronics when in such proximity.

When I lived in the dorms all those years ago, we didn't have air conditioning, so I used to keep a much smaller fan than that about a few feet from my desktop. That is until I realized the wavy lines I was seeing on my monitor were only there when the fan was off. I did have some data corruption on my HD, as well. You live, you learn, you place the fan farther away.

Bravo. This is cargo cult science at its best. We need more people like you -- people who have heard a few "scientific" terms here and there and then just make up stuff as they go, because as it is politicians have way too hard of a job.

    Bah.

If I had a quarter for every time I saw something like this, I could afford a Venti Mocha Blast this morning!

This isn't atypical for a tech room when a built-in fan blows but the circuitry is otherwise all right. So while the specially-ordered 47mm X 27mm .71 Amp 12 volt fan is under order, some cheap-ass fan from the local Wally world secured with duck tape and a few zip-ties fills in, along with a few messages like this:

    DON'T F!@KING TOUCH THIS!

Done it myself more than once or twice, and sometimes it takes a month (or months) to get the right !@#! fan to stick back into the box.

When I was stationed in Northern Japan as a radio/TV broadcaster for the USAF, our air-conditioning acted up all of the time. If the equipment in the master control room got too hot, we would have to shut down. This was pretty high priority and the HVAC folks were constantly in the office trying to fix the problem.

I left Japan for Germany for two years...then returned to the same base (and same job).

The EXACT SAME GUYS were STILL working on the AC.

I once worked at a place where the server room cooling was kept (just barely) adequate by a sewerage overflow from the men's toilets upstairs. After the plumbers were called out, we nearly melted the SAN controller. Again.
