People from US think so much they're the centre of the world that they don't need to say the country name.
You simply have to know the name of every state of it.

I don't know what kind of school you went to but I remember having to memorize all the states/countries/cantons/whatever in the USA, Canada, the UK (easy), the Soviet Union, fuckign Switzerland and possibly a few other that I don't remember right now. Not much of if stuck, though. For some odd reason they never bothered to teach us the Chinese provinces (is that what they're called anyway?) even though I hear they're pretty big.
