Actually, I'm a little surprised that the solution wasn't obvious. Maybe I've spent too much time around floppy disks and strange editors, but whenever I see behavior like this, I always check the cleanliness of the source. This is surprisingly easy in UNIX: <font face="Courier New">cat -vet filename.c</font> will highlight anything strange in your code. But so will most editors and file viewers.

Data corruption is probably more common than you think.

Trying to be neutral and yet positive on the lecturer side. This is not a bad one, but true it is difficult to make a 9 page document for a disgruntled student. I wish, everyone (students or professionals), look at the gist of it. Its all about Ethical consciousness and being able to determine what's good and what's bad, who's responsible and why, who's accountable and why, all in terms of real time organizational structure.

However, from a student's perspective, understanding the above could be easier rather being able to produce a 9 page document narrating the same. But accept the fact , assignments are likewise (my dear UTS student). I would suggest you look at the broader scope of it, and try to relate to this scenario.

I can pass on any guidelines, if it's not too late, and if you can respond on this discussion board with your details.
