I was once called to figure out why a certain transaction on a mainframe-based logistics system was running slow. This little PL/I gem was waiting in the source
do while (serial>=19); serial = serial - 19; end;
In case any of you are wondering, PL/I does have a modulu operator. Needless to say, "serial" was a 9-digit catalogue number.

I'd just like to note that, aside from the fact that the code is centered around latin languages, it actually runs fine on my machine. I tested it against rather long fields too.

That code isn't really all that bad (I know... it's not great, but it shouldn't take that long to run). The problem is how IE handles concatenation of strings. If you were to run the same site in Firefox, it would have been much faster.

A sub WTF is that aside from being completely insane, they didn't even make the arrays the correct size wrt each other.
