Since when is having your stuff sold on Ebay a sign of success? When people are hawking your stuff on Ebay, it usually is some sign of failure right? btw: This is SPARTA!!!

  • Vollhorst (unregistered)

I am always proud when someone buys something I have created, notices that it is crap and sells it on ebay for a dollar or two. Must be good quality.

  • (cs) in reply to Vollhorst

Assuming the part about it out-featuring the competition is true... They built a better mousetrap, and nobody was really interested in it.

An engineering success and marketing failure? What a shock!

Aside: I'd be interested in seeing some of the other serial numbers that they used (Graveyard, Demonseed, WTF-1, WTF-2, ...?)

  • RandomDreamer (unregistered)

TRWTF is "TOMBSTONE" as the serial number. Someone must've seen in the future & predicted the outcome of this product...

That was the first WTF in the story - that no one other than the person writing the story quite understood that the item being sold on eBay was not really a sign of anything. People sell $100K cars on eBay, they also sell their dirty underwear.

I must admit that my team was quite happy to see some hardware boxes we helped develop selling on eBay. Of course, these were selling at multiples of the retail price instead of at a steep discount...some people were even buying out other people's pre-orders for the machines.

Sorry to deuce on your parade, but this is straight from the eBay rules and policies:

"Used underwear including, but not limited to, boxer shorts, panties, briefs, athletic supporters and cloth diapers (including diaper covers) are not permitted."

Phew, when I saw the headline, I was expecting some sort of error message carved into a tombstone.

Not to worry, though... I hear there are websites that specialize in used undies. Customized to order, even.

People don't buy used boxer short, panties, etc., to wear.

That's why ebay doesn't allow them to be sold. Don't they have a blanket ban on everything of a sexual nature?

  • Bandit (unregistered) in reply to SeventySevens

Actually the market for used cloth diapers is quite active. High-quality cloth diapers can last a long time. Yes, my wife is big on cloth diapers for our baby.

After both me and my sister no longer needed them, my dad started using (and still uses) them to clean vehicles, instead of sponges. Works really well actually, if it was soft enough for my ass, it's soft enough for the car.

Being sold on ebay is a pretty big sign that your product hasn't made it.

Think about it. A customer bought your product, used it (or didn't), and then decided that reselling it for less than the MSRP was better than leaving it plugged in.

  • Rich (unregistered) in reply to SeventySevens

He said "dirty underwear", not "used underwear". Big difference. Unless your used underwear is actually dirty. Ew.

  • JJ (unregistered)

eBay doesn't allow used underwear because of all the dirty gay guys who want to buy some hot (probably underaged) stud's used athletic supporters or boxers. The reason they want to buy them is so they can wear them while getting off.

  • Rich (unregistered) in reply to Bruce W

Indeed, used cloth diapers (as opposed to dirty cloth diapers) are more absorbent, because the new material has a film of grease. After ten washings or so, they start to do their job properly. My wife and I prefer Indian cloth for our baby.

I have say I don't get this one at all.

Why would (a) anyone thinks something for sale on eBay is a sign of anything at all and (b) who would use "TOMBSTONE" as a serial number?

Speaking of that, another thing I don't get is why anyone would name a frozen pizza company "Tombstone". I mean, in the original context it makes some vague amount of sense but as a national brand, that's a serious "WTF?" in and of itself.

Schnapple didn't say the underwear was used, only dirty. For example, what if the underwear was dropped on the ground and trampled on while coming back from the store. Brand new, unworn, dirty underwear for sale (NO RESERVE!).
