My favorite line is the last one:

"Sorry for the lots of typos but i was in a real hurry when writong this document"

He/She had time to write that comment, but not enough time to spellcheck?  priceless.

My favorite is the 'Billing' section. That's a precise description. It's clearer than the rest...

Billing is really overrated, and as for his home, maybe he lives at an ISP?  Maybe when you drop by his house to see your orders he'll make you some tea?

  • (unregistered)

Brilliant, I want to bid on this right now...  I know that if this guy's house was robbed, my lovely e-commerce site will go with the theif, and my goodness, I hope he has a halon system to snuff out any fires that may crop up.  Ooh ooh, how about power issues; redundancy, generators??  If any one actually considers this proposal, they must be out of their f'ing minds.

"For the product we will need a function that two pictures One of them is the small Other one is big"

    $300,000 up front. Non-refundable :)

Heck, I'd even host it for him, I already host my own website.

  • (unregistered)

I don't see the problem.  My bosses routinely hand me specs like this.

    Absolutely.

    Priceless.

  • (unregistered)

A semi-unrelated WTF inspired by the OP:

Does his name (Péter) really have an accent over the E when properly spelled/pronounced, or is he just trying to be interesting?

I mean, when you say "PEE-TER", the accent already IS on the first E, why add an explicit one?

  • (cs)

Ok, maybe it's just me but I think a copy pasted post did break havoc on the html of this thread. The funny part seems to be that the offending post was copied from Open Office and IE can't show the full page but FF can.

Anyway, about the "spec", it's hard to believe this was forged in Word 2002, a napkin seem more suitable to this.

PS: Is now a good time to point out this forum software is WTF'd as well?

  • (unregistered) in reply to

You'd have a point about the spelling of the name if the mark was used merely to mark the accented syllable.  The acute mark is diacritical in many (most?) languages with it.  In other words, it changes the sound.  e.g., in French it changes the pronunciation (transcribed in English) from "puh" to "pay".

After a quick google, it appears Péter is a common Hungarian name.  It also seems e and é are pronounced the same, or at least very similarly, in Hungarian as they are in French.  The examples given were the e sounds in "set" and "grey".

  • (cs)

    A word document? WTF! :P

So is the name pronounced pété or péteur?

  • (cs)

English was not this person's first language, or at least I'm hoping that's the case.

On a lighter note, the forum is acting weird. On the front page it showed there were 18 replies, and when I went to view this particular thread, the notation at the bottom said "Page 1 of 1 (20 items)". Alex's initial post plus 18 replies does not equal 20. Also I was able to easily notice that there's actually only about 5 replies displayed, a far cry from the 18 that are supposedly there. Maybe they're just really REALLY short posts.

  • (cs) in reply to Manni

Upon further investigation, it looks like all the responses are there in the HTML, they're just not being displayed in my browser. Sorry I don't have the time to wade through all that output Alex, hopefully you (or a motivated reader) can lead us to salvation.

It's also pretty amazing that he's going to host it on a satellite system.  Those are high-latency systems, with pathetically slow upload times (I was on one for 2 years because I live in the boonies)

  • (unregistered)

<FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #efefef">The original document (written in Hungarian) was published on prog.hu, a Hungarian programming community site and believe me, Péter did great job with the translation. Funny that there were a few volunteers to implement the spec. For a reasonable amount of money, I guess :)

  • (unregistered) in reply to

The reason for the forum quirk (in IE only as far as I can tell) was an open ended <style> tag in the second post. It caught me offguard at first too, so I posted a closing </style> before (or between) the Billing comments on the first page. To see the missing comments, try FireFox of another moz browser.

  • (unregistered) in reply to

Err, not Péter, but Zoltán. Hungarian has reversed name order compared to most languages, it's surname + first name instead of first name + surname. Both Zoltán and Péter are surnames in Hungarian (like John James) , however, so it's easy to mix them up...

It seems that my yesterday post from this thread was deleted (among others?).
There was a post yesterday containing some html that break havoc in the rendering of the page in IE. It seem to be that the culprit was a text copy/pasted from OpenOffice with a couple of <META> and <STYLE> tags. I suspect the Word 2002 document was opened in OpenOffice and then the poster copied directly from that a paragraph in the 'Rich Textbox" of the reply page.

About "the Spec", It's kind of hard to believe it was written in Word 2002, A napkin appears to be more in the level of professionalism of  "the Spec".

I'm using Safari 1.2.4 (v125.12) right now and I only see a few of the replies. Yesterday with (I think) Opera 7.51 on Linux I saw the same thing. maybe one of the posts is closing the HTML or something.

  • (unregistered) in reply to

From a linguistic standpoint, those are fairly different sounds. The examples you found were not the best. The first is a lax vowel, and the second is tense. A better example would be the vowel sound between 'bet' and 'bait'. This is probably not entirely correct in Hungarian, though, as the sound in 'bait' is actually diphthongized.

Re: Satellite internet - I agree, I was on DirecPC for 2 years, and it was completely useless for uploads or online gaming, with ping times in the 600ms range on average!  Hosting ANYTHING on such a connection would be beyond WTF, not to mention a violation of Terms of Service for the ISP.  (Unless they do in fact have business class satellite internet, which I am not personally aware of.)
