    I want you to know that dropping dead from work is all too real and can happen to anyone.

    I absolutely believe that, but the submitter's text as written doesn't actually indicate that the manager, Fred, died from work. It might just as easily be mega-violent food poisoning; a random cancer picked up because of, say, no particular reason that anybody could find; or even an early heart attack that Fred got because it runs in his family.

    My job has already had two people (one a VP) die from heart attacks. I actually quit for 13 months because a manager put me on an insane death march project, and I said I was not going to be the third to die from work-related stress. I later returned after that manager left, and I have been enjoying it again ever since.

    The thing to remember about a death march is that it's both about the journey and the destination.

    Most likely cardiac. It happened to somebody my significant other once worked for (long after she left). He was found by a couple of walkers having had a cardiac arrest whilst out running. See also Douglas Adams.

    Now she nags me about my not quite as healthy as it could be diet, which is a bit annoying but much better than feeding me bacon sandwiches while checking the value of my life insurance.
