Frankly, supporting USSR is not all that much of a WTF. Lots of systems have to deal with historical data, or at least be able to import historical data.

ISO 3166 alpha-2 contains lots of other weird codes in it corresponding to former countries or other quasi-governmental entities (check out everything on the wikipedia list under 'Exceptional reservations' and below). SU for Soviet Union is a transitional reservation. There's also e.g. DD under deleted codes for the German Democratic Republic (East Germany).

Pinning customers by their thumbnails sounds painful, but its what I would expect from an undefined company.

You'd'v'nt thought it possible, but there 'tis. In fact, you'd'v'nt's frequency of use is quite low.

Really, to get the contraction (vs just an apostrophe), I should have said something like, "In fact, you'd'v'nt's rarely used."

I suppose that Amazon example is what you get when Max Headroom spends the evening listening to Paul Hardcastle.

Honestly I am just surprised to find such a detailed SQL error message, and one that incorporates an erroneous element of the query into the message. Error messages that helpful are painfully rare.

I'm more concerned about the lack of parameterisation on the query. It's like the last 20 years of OWASP haven't happened.

    You'd'v'nt

    ITYM you'd'nt've ?

    Addendum 2021-07-27 10:12: Or, even better, you'dn't've?

  • Airdrik (unregistered) in reply to jkshapiro

I was thinking that as well. I'd've also added another apostrophe for the n't contraction; or is there some reason I'm missing that you'd'n't've done that?

  • (nodebb) in reply to Airdrik

Nope, just Muphry's Law in action.

Am I the only one who sorts the most commonly used countries in the database to the top of the country list?
