    Googling now for [Hertz near Quincy IL] shows they used to have an office at that first address. And the airport is in the right place. So they're batting 0.666 on this one.

    If somebody did tell Hertz about this, does anyone doubt the first instinct of the offshore dev tasked to fix this would be to simply reduce the alternatives displayed from 3 to 2?

    I think its trying to say that the username "maxp" already exists, but the username "This username already exists." is available. Why it'd suggest that as an alternative name, I don't know.

    No, it'd probably be something like this: "This username already exists, " + alternativeName + " is available". And alternativeName is a blank string.
