    As I understand it, the last person was searching for a gyrocompass (non-magnetic, typically used in vehicles) but the top search results are all magnetic compasses (the type you would actually bring on a hike).

    Yeah, you're correct - it's still not something that should happen in a game from a major publisher.

    Also, the correct choice if you want to play in English isn't "English", it's "-'. The "English" option gives you English audio with Japanese text, or thr other way around - not 100% certain, it's been a while since I've submitted this.

    When I see such translation errors, I always think about my old VCR. It translated 'minutes' with the Dutch word for 'meeting notes'. So I was always asked to wait a few meeting notes... (and we all know those can take quite some time to arrive, if ever)

    I have an old printer service manual which decided to abbreviate "service and maintenance" in its translation from another language, resulting in advice such as "take care when performing S&M on the printer to avoid injury."

    I remember two decades ago, when I stayed in a Hotel on Maderia and there were fire instructions in German: "When you see fire, run into the flames". Obviously I am a nice guy and told the hotel manager about this translations, and he was like "Sorry, but we got the translation by an professional IT company, you must be mistaken". I told him that I'm a native speaker, but he continued with ensuring me that everything is perfect, so I gave up. Wonder how many German speakers actually ran into the flames after I left.

    I think it's sort of fun that the previous poster (comments still held for moderation as I'm posting) has a username rendered in what Google tells me is Persian script. And TDWTF renders it correctly. Despite all the oft-cited glitchology on this site itself, here we have a convo about mojibake and botched translations that's apparently working correctly.

    Well, just because it may not convey what it was meant to, it is still valid advice.

On the other hand, Swedish Amazon sellers have complained that Amazon's attempt at establishment seems neither relevant nor serious...

    Years ago I saw a TV manual in which "picture" was translated with the word for "painting": "How to adjust the painting brightness" etc.
