Hah, for a second I thought the think tank was imaginary. Turns out I was only partially right :<!---->)
Admin
In his defense, it was still a tank. Just, you know, not for thinking. Kind of like a fish tank, really.
Admin
I don't get it. The CIO was so dumb he thought the break room was some magical place where technology happened?
Admin
It's likely where coffee happens so it might as well cause miracles.
Admin
Well, either the break room, or the last stall in the 2d floor men's room...
Admin
No WTF. In most companies, the real synergy happens in the breakout areas.
Admin
Oh, and full marks for appropriate use of "insipient" which I had to google thinkng it may have been a typo for "incipient".
Admin
I heard someone have his best thought on how to write code when he is in the bathroom, maybe we should just imagine a break room have similar power too.
Admin
Or perhaps the bathroom was located just off the break room.

I set up a think tank at our company but the MD told me to stop chewing up the carpark with its tracks, and pointing the gun at his BMW.
Admin
Break rooms can certainly be think tanks (at least kitchen sink tanks) but they can also be mental Ctrl-Break rooms. ;)
Admin
This kind of tank is more compact, but I think also more destructive.

Well, management often produces the same thing in the boardroom as they do in the bathroom ...
Admin
But in far greater quantities.
Admin
I fully second that. Break time is a good time to take a few steps back from your problems, gather a more general view, exchange with others (they may have a solution), involve others in your project...
It works at least as good as a formal meeting, and because it is not formal, it may even be more productive, or productive a different way.
In fact, if there is no get together break time, or Friday pizza lunch at the office, or some form of informal gathering, it is very likely that the team is not functioning.

I do some of my best thinking in the bathroom also. My think tank is partially filled with water and has a handle on it.
