If YouMail had sorted on ordinal month names, the order would have been correct: Frist, Second, Third, ...

Frist, Snecod, Thrid, Frouth, Ffith, Sxith, etc.

Well, I suppose if your activity is in fact being the one playing the typewriter in a marching band that is playing Leroy Anderson's "The Typewriter", you're not going to want to be wearing just socks on your feet, are you?

You Mail are obviously using strings for their months, without realising they might need a custom sort order in that case. It's a pretty everyday problem, the only wtf is that no one noticed before it went to production...

  • 🤷 (unregistered)

Yes, Youmail sorts by strings. 111111 as a string of course comes before 2. Just like aaaaaaa will get sorted in before b. If only they would use leading 0's on months < 10.

They probably did use leading zeros in an older version, but a marketing person requested that they drop the leading zero to be more user friendly. The test project didn't pick up the new error.

    It's that string-style of sorting that goes 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 because obviously the 1st character in 10 and 11 are ones, which comes before 6, 7, 8, or 9.

Looks like they were closed, but certainly temporarily, 86 years ago.

It worked just fine for them back in September. What's the problem?

The TWTF is using month- or day-first date strings for anything but I/O.

Reminds me of the time when my brother used a full song as the windows (98) shut down sound. So you had to wait like three minutes to shut the machine down. And the next day you would have forgotten about it, so you wouldn't change it.

It was No Limit from 2 Unlimited btw, not bad.

I worked for Microsoft when they introduced mandatory startup sounds. Loads of us complained because they are shit and because they slow things down. We were assured that they couldn't possibly slow things down!!!

I started using a new contractor umberella last year as my previous umberalla wasn't on the agency's list of approved umberallas.

All ok until a couple of months ago this year and I couldn't find my payslips on the portal, it kept giving me last year's. I then looked a bit closer. The payslips were sorted by month, so I was getting: Jan 2020 Feb 2020 Mar 2020 Sep 2019 Sep 2020 Oct 2019 Oct 2020 Nov 2019 Dec 2019

    Well at least they weren't sorted Dec 2019 Feb 2020 Jan 2020 Mar 2020 Nov 2019 Oct 2019 Oct 2020 Sep 2019 Sep 2020...
